Are you kidding? Of course you can! And your possibilities get increased if you are an English native speaker, holding a bachelors degree and with a Caucasian appearance.

Yes, that is not a problem, as long as English is your native language. If it isn't, it will be more difficult, but still possible.

Yes you can, I live in dongguan and have met many english teachers here. Some of them are not even english, but i think due to their extreme caucasian appearance (swedish i think - very pale skin, blue eyes, blonde hair) they seemed to get a job very easily. A friend of mine recently came over from uk to take a year working here as english teacher, he found it a little more difficult as he is of Iranian descent but holds a UK passport and english is his first language. The recruiters were a little perplexed but he got a job after 3 weeks here and 3 interviews.
So I wouldnt worry. BTW why dongguan?

Lived in Dongguan for over 3 years now. Started out in EF, then left after 6 months. After that I've been through the doors of a few training centers and now I teach in a prestigious middle school.

Most English teachers, regardless of what country they choose to work in, speak zero of that language. They probably know how to say hello or 1 beer please! Wink.

The students you teach will be able to communicate in English, zero level students have a Chinese teacher until they are better at English then they move to a native speaker. In some schools you might even be given a local assistant who will be in the class with you and help keep discipline or translate if the students are really stumped. BUT if you get an assistant don't rely on them for everything or the students will not respect or listen to you, they will expect to be spoonfed your instructions in Chinese and then they will learn NOTHING!

As for jobs check out the jobs section here on echinacities (http://jobs.echinacities.com/dongguan-jobs/) there are quite a few posts. If you want to wing-it and come here without a job, just be prepared to do some leg-work and go around the training centers, you will usually be able to find a job pretty quickly OR you can take on a bunch of part-time work at different training centers until you find something more permanant.

Good luck!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
