Q: is it true?

a school told me this:

there is another consideration that we should discuss. You have a TEFL but not two years experience. In China, you must have the Chinese government TEFL in order to work without experience.

This is a very new law and as of about 10 months ago, China does not accept international TEFL certificates, even the most prestigious ones. If someone does not have 2 years experience working in China, they must have the official government one. Basically, it will require someone to go to Shanghai for a week to do the training. There are other portions to it as well.

The way it works is that you would be able to get a Work Permit and Invitation Letter. You'll be able to get the job, but you will need to spend about a week in either Beijing or Shanghai to finish training. It is at an official government training location for teachers.

Your visa will be possible in order to get here; after that, you'll need to do that week in order to get the residence permit.

You can dial SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau) in Province you got that explanation about (your) TEFL and no 2-years experience.

Enter 'SAFEA' in search above for address and contact no. in your Province.

Please, update the Board with Gov.'s explanation of that requirement.

YES, my school sent a recent college graduate with no teaching experience to shanghai for the class last year for a week and got her a z visa after the class, not sure of the cost but the class was five days.

the book they use for the class "teaching english in china"

author robert wyss jr.ma. and emily a thrush, phd.

the paperback version is 29.80 rmb isbn number 978-7-302-15930-8

the book is orange and blue cover and says "recommended by department of cultural and educational experts, state administration of foreign experts affairs"

the teacher does not work for us anymore and she left the book in my office here.

ambivalentmace:

further clarification, she came over for the first semester and taught on a tourist visa, took the class in november, renewed another tourist visa trip to korea and back again and then took the course certificate and documents back to america during spring festival she got a z visa permit at the chinese embassy in new york city and finish the second semester, but she had enough trouble in china and called it quits. very few female teachers stay here for a long time. hard to keep a female when we get one.
