Q: Marriage in China

I'm a U.S. citizen with a z visa, FEC, and RP in China.
My question is, if I marry the woman I love here in China, will it affect my RP and FEC in anyway negatively?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of registering to marry? (She has the Beijing hukou).

Does it open other doors in relation to working in China?

Please understand, we have thought carefully about marriage, and I'm planning our future together. Our plans require us to be working in China at least 5 years together to build a successful future.
I just would like to know the ins and outs of marrying in China.
Any links with information would be much appreciated as well as personal opinions.

Unless you apply for a spousal visa, it will have no impact at all on your RP.

UNFORTUNATELY, one cannot legally work on a spousal visa, so no, it does not open new avenues of employment.

Marriage in China Pro: Q visa, Nice wife, beautiful kids and it will totally help your wife get a U.S green card, because showing history that you have lived together over two years will help more than people will say, it was key to getting my wife a Green card.

Now Marriage cons in China: Can't work on a Q visa (But most do anyway, I support them.), IF you guys divorce nothing can be yours, you have no control, the court only supports Chinese, can't get money back, can't get your kids back if they are on a Hukou. You will walk away with 0%, just your clothes and TV, it happened to my friend last month, I learn the whole court system before my very eyes. Sometimes Chinese wives can become tigers, so be ready. IF any of this happens, I'm not saying it will, but you should know the unfair risks of marriage in China.

Shining_brow:

Very very few people go into a marriage thinking it won't last. And given the rapidly rising rates of divorce, this should be the FIRST thing to consider about marriage - far before the 'love' thing! Your current ardour will mean nothing in 2 years when you're screaming at each other.

I married with China wife 5 years ago. We have a daughter, 3 years old now.

Nothing wrong married and stay in China but you must have the exit plan start from the beginning.

The kid must follow your's citizenship even though it is easier for the kid to get China citizenship. Some would say, you can convert the citizenship later. It is advisable do not take the risk and troublesome.

Don't acquire any fix asset in China. I hope you understand the consequences later on.

Do not put all your hard earned money in the China bank account or into your joint account with your wife.

I think that enough for you to digest and think about it deeply.
