Q: My Chinese wife needs 100,000 RMB to go to Okinawa?

I can't get a real answer on baidu.

I want to take my Chinese wife to Okinawa Japan, I heard I need to pump 100,000 RMB into her account to let her get a visa to go to Okinawa for 5 days? Crazy..

Has anyone heard or tried taking their wife or Chinese friends to Okinawa? I do believe its true for Tokyo, but for Okinawa? my god.

For EU visa's you can fill a form (invitation) that says will be financially responsible for your wife on the trip. Maybe something similar is possible so you don't need to move money around.

...if you are going with her that is.

Check the Japanese Embassy web site.

The 100000 RMB is a security deposit held by 'China' to ensure her return. It has nothing to do with the Japanese.

Nope.  Visas are granted by the visited country.  Passports are granted by the country you are leaving. They don't actually talk to each other.

The deposit is asked for by the travel agent who applies for your wife's visa.  It's the fine they need to pay if she goes AWOL.

The only rule the Chinese Government apply to Chinese nationals leaving China is that they have a passport and a visa.  A Chinese national can't actually leave China to go to a country they don't need a visa for. Sri Lanka is a good example. They don't need a visa, but they will be denied exit from China unless they have a visa.  So they need to go via Malaysia or wherever.

Need visa to get out.

Fully agree with ScotsAlan,

The Japanese government want a security deposit to ensure that your wife won't disappear while in Japan.

Scandinavian also has a good point. I took my Chinese fiancee back to the UK to visit my family last year, she's self employed so can't prove earnings as she doesn't keep books (go figure!). So I provided all the supporting information that I would support her while in the Uk and proved that we would both be returning to China.

I also suggested to my fiancee a while back about us going to Japan and she started to rant about the Japanese wanting a huge security deposit (can't remember the amount). so as suggested, check with teh Japanese embassy yourself.

Shit, for 50,000 the fishermen in Weihai will take her to Okinawa and you won't need any paperwork at all friend. They may even include a sushi dinner enroute!

Seem that does not only apply to the Japanese visa. I am married to a Chinese national, and have been here 7 years. Last year my wife and I wanted to travel to my home town in the UK for a 6 weeks visit, taking in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the UK. I still have my home there yet the UK borders Agency required that she also showed proof that she had 100,000 yuan/rmb in her account. My wife has her business here for many years and has no desire to reside in the UK or any other country. I even have to supply her with a letter of invitation to my home. Even when she provided the proof of her account, they then wanted proof of her accounts and business details. Not everyone wants to live in the UK.
