Q: Possible to have a meaningful conversation with Chinese girl/boyfriend?
Can anyone here do that? I find it impossible to talk about the future here for example. It's so simple; we're at point A, we're moving to point B, realistically this is what's gonna happen. But people here all too often can't really consider future possibilities and come to (what in my opinion are) obvious conclusions. Attempts to think about life changes or anything that doesn't involve rabbits and a warm, fuzzy glow just lead 'that' look, clamming-up, and trouble for me. It's so frustrating.
In truth, my wife, even though she is a blood-sucking vampire from the depths of Hell, is a great conversationalist. She's actually won two national spoken English competitions, the entry requirement being that you'd never been abroad, and she'd not only never done that, she'd never studied outside university. Won 'em twice. And she can think outside the box. I'm not bored of her enough to want to sack her yet, despite her thirst for human blood. The only downside is she never f***ing shuts up.
I can have meaningful conversations with my wife with ease.
If I couldn't I wouldn't be with her. For me it is very important to be able to discuss and plan the future (which we did).
Whatever about meaningful conversations with bf/gf, i have found if i try to discuss possibilities on some topics all i get is : 'you think too much.' WTF? SOMEONE has to think about possible consequences of certain actions before a decision is made......
It's possible. But you're right that sometimes unicorns enter the conversation. The world of Chinese primetime low quality drama tv is a massive influence on the idealistic view on relationships and life.
Depends who you are dating. If her hobbies include taking selfies and complaining how fat she is, she won't be much of a thinker.

I have them every day with my wife, even when we're fighting and bitching at each other. Even when she's domestically abusing the Hulk.
On the other hand, the last two girlfriends didn't know how to think. "You think too much." Oh my goodness, sorrel, thank you for reminding me of that. My wife has only said that once. Last two girls had some serious Spock failures.
If you can't have a meaningful conversation with your Chinese partner...why da hell you chose him/her as your girl/boyfriend????

If you date a stick thin party girl, don't go looking for Kant to come up in conversation.
Try to find a girl who actually speaks English, and your prospects will improve dramatically. I don't mean "sucky sucky five dorrah," or "I love you" kind of stuff. Look for a girl who can actually understand 99.9% of what you say.
Failing that, learn Chinese and you'll have no shortage of meaningful conversations.
I prefer not to sleep with girls that can carry a really deep conversation with me. Sex complicates things too much. Keep the tang' for when you need your tang and the brainy friends- just friends- to always have someone to find when you want to have a good conversation.
