Q: Purchasing a laptop in Hong Kong
So I'm just curious, I've searched on Google a bit, but haven't found too much satisfactory information. Would purchasing a laptop in HK be cheaper than doing so in China? Would it come preinstalled with all the nice malware and spyware that it does in China? Does anyone have experience doing such a thing?

No, but it's far safer and cheaper than buying tech. on the mainland (Lenovo is more expensive than when bought anywhere abroad)

nice. Yeah, I'm looking into the lenovo yoga just as something easy to tote around and do work on. I'm sick of carrying my other laptop around cause its bulky and heavy. I am mostly concerned about spyware and malware that the PRC installs on laptops sold in the mainland. I'd even be willing to pay slightly more to know that it wasn't infected with such trash. I know, I know, Lenovo is a Chinese company, but it's also cheap. On the other hand, there's the Acer Chromebook which seems ok, but I'm not sure if I can install Linux on that yet or how it would run. Thanks for the input.
On another note, I was just thinking today, how does China allow iMessage to run? Isn't it supposedly end-to-end encrypted
buy a msi from jindong... the best thing is it just comes with dos installed, so not crapware on it

,,, I bought my MacBook Air there years ago at the real Apple store in Central,,, IFC Bldg if I remember correctly. The reasoning went something like- buy a hi-quality product from a genuine hi-end retailer. Seems everyone you meet on Mainland will tell u if your are going to buy anything hi-end, especially electronics, buy abroad if possible. They kinda seem to mean HK, Seoul, Japan, Singapore, USA...
The only in theory hang-up is that one supposedly hears horror stories about how ML border officials have busted peoples balls about bringing stuff back in and hit 'em up with import duties. Sounds more like Urban Legend to me, but who knows.
I wouldn't say HK is cheaper for anything.

Right, I mean if i don't take the packaging or anything then they have no way of knowing where I bought it or when. I just want to find a decent laptop that I can easily carry around. I work remotely very often and I get sick of lugging this massive piece of shit everywhere.
