Q: A question for native English speakers

Teaching jobs that don't need high degree of fluency  such as teaching kids English .  As we all know that Chinese parents care too much about the backgrounds of teachers so as non-native English speakers we sometimes have to lie about our background ! Does it bother you that some expats climb on your nationality ?

Anyway . Teaching English is totally different than speaking the language properly ! So many native speakers are suck at teaching and unfortunately the employers have to recruit  non native to teach coz they get along with the kids !

mldardar:

As you stated in your question, you lied to get hired, so it shouldn't offend you if I say your comment is also a lie, AMJED!  These schools UPGRADE to native English speakers because they get more students (= more money!). They rarely would knowingly DOWNGRADE to a poor speaking non-native. In fact, I was hired to replace a non-native English speaking teacher because his accent was too strong. And one of the Chinese English teachers said he had told  his students not to copy that man's pronunciation. Schools hire non-native speakers first because they work for less money and aren't particular about their accommodations. When I arrived at the school, I asked to see the foreign teacher's accommodations, and was told it wasn't suitable for me. So they had me stay in a hotel nearby while my apartment was being prepared and furnished with western appliances. Before me, there had been 3 different foreign teachers, all from Ghana. The last had been there a year and a half. I was told that he often got in to arguments at stores and restaurants in town. I was there 3 and a half years, then was contacted by a school in a larger city that was looking for North American teachers only. They had enough of non-natives because at these higher grades they want the students to learn correct pronunciation. And the Chinese English teachers are happy to have a native English speaker to talk to and consult. Having a non-native teaching English isn't that different from the Chinese English teachers, so why would they hire a foreigner to do the same job?
