Q: is this Saturday a working day in China?
someone just informed me that this saturday 12th Oct 2013 will be a working day to make up for the holiday
is that true?
what's the point of getting a long holiday then not having weekends

We must work this Sunday in Xinjiang, replacing one day of next week, when we'll 'celebrate' one of the Muslim holidays ('Eid'l Adha' or 'Feast of Sacrifice'), from 10/15 - 20. School's out!
No, all the make-up days have been done.
The reason is so that people can take a longer time off to go on vacation or visit family/hometowns. It's a stupid idea that see's half the population traveling on the same days!
Every day is a working day!
Chinese people don't have such decadent Western ideals as 'weekends'.
It's an example of how it's possible to bullshit 1.3 billion people.
the real explanation:
national public holiday is 3 days but how long did you have off? 5 days
so you have to make up those 2 extra days, e.g. the sunday before and the saturday after these holidays.

I prefer weekends over a longer holiday
giving all the nation a holiday at the same time is pure stupidity because everyone was traveling at the same time and it was impossible for me to book a train ticket so i ended up staying home

Sucks right? I've done so much ranting and bitching about the holiday schedule that I'm just going to stop now and accept it quietly. I will then drown my frustrations in a bottle of vodka on Saturday night. Sunday hangover be dammed!
