Q: "There is no alchemy by which to to get golden conduct from leaden instincts."

The American missionary, Arthur Henderson Smith, wrote this of the Chinese character in the 19th century. I cannot help to be of the opinion that same sentiment is preserved here so often in so many expat forums. Kind of interesting..the Christian perspective.  What do you think?

It is equally true that by no political alchemy is it possible to make a golden society out of leaden individuals.

The thing is, these leaden individuals are leaden by communism in the case of prc. Specifically, by Marx's souless materialism (

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_materialism)

which mainlanders study in their political classes throughout their high school years, all the way to uni where they continue to study 'advance marxism', defined as Mao's and Deng's thinking.

The end product of this exclusive focus, obsession with physical survival and rejection of the spiritual create a society of ethicless, heartless, utilitarian individuals (en masse speaking).  You can see this in the handicapped hardware development, with no moral software to keep a healthy check and balance.

Someone says --- Man cannot live on bread alone.  Well, it looks like quite a few can.  It depends on how one defines life.  Those who eat bread alone are the walking dead, spiritual deadbeats if you like.

In terms of Maslow's Hierarchy, they are brainwashed to think the bottom layer (food and shelter, physical survival layer) is ALL there is.  When they try to move up a rug, to the social acceptance strata this materialistic perversion manifests as unscrupulous, ethicless, souless face seeking attitudes toward life (a good example being those girls in

http://answers.echinacities.com/question/social-problems-do-these-girls-...).

For males this primarily takes the form of lowly evolved ego competition, waring attitude --- cursed are the ones who are superior than them (in some case even as simple as physically taller), trashing developed countries, self aggrandizement in the name of china. We this and we that, as if he invented high speed railway and walked in space. To be fair, CCP does its number on them, in the name of patriotic BS, creating a common enemy (the Japanese and Laowais) which is a piece of cake given the history they have had.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
