Q: What defines a "90后" Chinese?

I see this phrase all over the Chinese interwebs, usually used as a pejorative, such as "slutty 90后 student does something slutty".

Other than these rather sensationalist personality traits, what actually defines a 90后 Chinese? Are there any redeeming traits to being  an early twenty-something Chinese?

They are born after 1990. That's about it. The generations are usually separated by decade. A lot of the younger generation are considered to be brainless brats. However, like any stereotype, there are exceptions. My students were all 90后. I didn't see all the "crap" people seem to complain about online, just normal students trying to get on with their lives. There are still kids who are polite and nice and good students, but people like to complain about the bad stuff online, that's pretty normal.

Lol! It is the standard "My generation is better than your generation" drivel.  in fact, I am now seeing my own generation slipping into it.  Most of my friends have been complaining for the last few years that "todays music is just so much yelling". Some will even add violent. (note: I was born in 1968).

When I point out that they sound like our dads, they get defensive and even repeat, with emphasis what they said above. (Violent? Did they forget OUR songs like "I shot The Sherrif "?).

People have hated the  young generations music since the advent of Jazz, and each generation does the same. Billi Holliday, Elvis, Beatles, etc. were all equaled to the Devil.

Havent reachd that point myself yet , though i am not yet old....

In general, the 90 后 are said to be impolite, spoiled, lack of self-management,irresponsible,taking the others' kindness for granted ,and etc. Many of these weaknesses were said to be owned by youngsters born in the 1980's as well, but as a 80 后 myself, i don't think we are that bad,it really depends on individual.I don't think 90 后are as bad as the others said neither. Each generation has its own characteristics, new generations usually have thoughts and acts that are not considered "right " in eyes of the old generations, but it doesn't mean the new things are always bad.People need to update their thoughts with time goes by,or else, they will be out of date.
