Q: What is a good China day for you?

Many of us like to complain about the bad days (I myself am quite guilty), but what about the good days?
What are some of the best days you have had here, or what is a typical good China day?

Number one would be the day that my sons were born.  Everything else is a pale second.

But, the day that I started my first company here and the day that I sold it were great days.

The day that was first able to order a complete meal by myself in Chinese was pretty good too.  :)

For me, 2% of my days in China are good China days.  4% are bad China days.  And the other 94% are just average China days.

The day a kid actually smiled at me on the subway instead of screaming with fear. His parents did too and didn't seem to have spite in their eyes.
The day I got lost and some two old women helped me find the place I was looking for, without me even asking for help.
The day I beat a chinese guy at chinese chess. haaha. He sure didn't expect that.
The day I first ate jiaozi.

crimochina:

those days are too few. but i like the look the kids give me after i give their mom my seat. but i cant stand kids so i normally get off the next bus stop ;)

i've seen this the last few times i got on the bus. young people giving their seats to older people and women with young children.
i love to go to a shop and they charge me a fare price instead of trying to rip me off.
days when i ordered sth fried and i could taste that the oil was clean
i love my freshmen class because when i ask them what they think i get responses. and not the "this is china" response (you would think someone majoring in international finance would be able to figure out that international means more than just china.)
i would love a day to go by without seeing a foreigner being disrespectful to a local whether it's calling our boss stupid, or screaming at a clerk because he could not effectively communicate his order (in chinese or english)
and to top it all off reading articles like this, http://www.chinasmack.com/2010/videos/wenzhou-residents-fight-back-against-purse-snatchers.html  http://www.chinasmack.com/2011/videos/blow-up-no-3-middle-school-chinese-students-punished.html, before getting into bed with a nice, open minded, independent thinking young lady

crimochina:

the second article shows creativity exists in china but sadly is quickly stamped out by the govt

A good China day is visiting one of their sacred mountains on a quiet day for tourists, walking around and climing the various paths or stairways that must have taken a lot of work to construct. Later to head out to dinner, Sichuan food if available, with friends who are travelling with you and hopefully a few others you may have met on the day and sharing a few cold beers and tales from each others life/culture/travels.

A day where I don't have to work, I eat meals with friends and hang out. Or, if it's a day I'm working, going to dance club and hanging out with the people there, or hanging out with people in the music building. I also like going into the city on a Friday or Saturday night when they have the night market, just to walk around.

For me it's a rare Saturday off, and sleeping till 2pm.
Then meeting friends for dinner at my favorite local restaurant, then to KTV for 4 or 5 hours of singing and drinking fun, then capped off by the 3am streetside restaurant for late night snacks.
After a day like this, then all is good in my world again.

I will never forget my first week in Xinyu.  I was cheated out of an apartment and basically thrown out into the street, in a small city where few spoke English.  I didn't know where to go or what to do.  It was a really bad China day.  But somehow, I contacted one of my QQ friends.  She called her friends and they put me up in a hotel (paid for the room),took me out to eat (paid for the meal), and found me a new place.  Only my friend knew English and we had just met.  I will never forget those girls.  It was my introduction to China.  I was cheated by one girl, but rescued by three others.  That night, I wrote a long article in my QQ diary about it and made many more friends by means of it.  I think it was this experience that sealed the deal between China and me.

When older people want to teach me tai chi in the park...
when strangers apologize for others rudeness and stand up for me
when I see young people patiently listening to their elders stories (when it looks genuine and not obligitory) about when they were younger. Young people seem to be too busy for this normally, and would rather shop, play games, doing something else

seeing simple kind gestures makes a good china day

Having the owner of a large State enterprise put me in the equivalent of the "Hu Jintao" suite and then sending multiple ladies of the evening up to entertain me.

When the ladies were declined with the excuse of "being too  tired" having them return a few minutes later with a bottle of Viagra.

Then explaining I couldnt do that (wife and all) and having them explain they were already paid, they were obligated and may get into trouble if I sent them away, and finally compromising and  getting massages,my ears cleaned, nails clipped, face washed, tea, and some conversation for the next few hours.

Wasn't a good China day, but had a good China moment yesterday.

I gave my seat on the bus to a child, and the dad was super grateful and happy (even though I couldn't understand him). However, the cool part was that the kid wrote "thank you" in both English and Chinese in the window fog.

No good China days but good China moments would be anytime I purchase something that's actually good quality for a fraction of what it would have costed in America !

bennyfulltrack:

Yeah......? I can buy all electronically goods cheaper in America then I can find here. Computers, phones, cameras etc and they are all the latest new ones on the market were I have to wait more then 6 months before they are available in China. Most of the goods are cheaper to buy in USA then here for your information.

The last few days have been good. The weather was excellent; cool temp and bright sun. The sky was actually blue (albeit a pale blue). Across the street from where I live is a large, wooded park with a fine lake and plenty of room to walk. People were out having fun; smiling, laughing, boating, and enjoying the afternoon. I went and got some sketch time in and listened to some good tunes on the IPod.

At one point I looked around at all these folks and thought, "People are people. This ain't bad at all." It was a nice couple of days where I worked in the morning and enjoyed the afternoon.
