Q: What happens when Chinese people grow up?
It's pretty weird lol. Past few days I seem to have little chats with Chinese kids around my apartment complex. These are some smart little kids though. I had one asking my opinions about some stuff. One talked to me about geography, one asked me about Obama and what I thought of his policies etc. the kids soon turn into a crowd of kids but I have had some interesting conversations with them. Not once asked about if I like Chinese food and those little interview questions that adults wanna know. So like I know nothing of the education system I just don't know where it goes wrong. These bright kids are curious and as they go through middle school all creative thinking is sapped? It's a shame to have a meaningful conversation with a child but my co-workers are talking about bath houses and boobs at least once a day. Where does it go wrong?..
Both schools and family tell the kids to not ask questions but just accept what they are told. Kids are naturally curious. For more on this topic read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curious_George
They will grow up and begin asking: do you like Chinese food... etc etc.....
Chinese education happen to them 
I've my own experience of teaching here, it was a soul sucking experience, akin to put a blooming plant in a dark cabinet and keep it there.
But actually, beware of how things look on the surface. While people I talk here show a depressing uniformity of though, I feel it's just a carefully cultivated appearance. Once they start to like me and feel more at ease to talk with me, l saw rational thinking and critics popping out. It's more apparent with the generation born after the early 80's.
They turn into white doves of peace, spread their wings to the skies, and then eat themselves.
They don't grow up....only grow older.

My feelings exactly JoyAlmost, but it is good to hear such comments from a Chinese person, At least I assume you are. Most of the problems here are caused by very poor education and outdated ideas coming from stupid parents and grandparents. If you are Chinese and can spread your way of thinking there may just be a future for this screwed up country.

yes I'm Chinese and I lived in China for 20 years, now I'm living in Europe.
I had a very traditional mom and have a quite open minded father.
So I quite understand all these parents their mind.
It is really difficult to change in China.
For me, I make fun of all these ridiculous things in China but also I'm disappointed in this country.

It's possible that these children will be different from their parents. Each generation can easily be quite different from the last. Let's wait and see, and hope...
You have to remember that relationships are suppressed throughout Chinese education and even some companies forbid relationships between colleagues and some forbid relationships at all (although the latter isn't that common).
This means that once they have been taught how to conform and that any drop of creativity is gone they are left as a social wreck with no idea how to talk to people about intelligent things and do not know how to approach normal women so are left going to pay for it or enjoy service girls who they can order about.
I know I am generalizing here and I have some friends who are very worldly but they are the ones that have had the chance to get out of China for a period of time, for the remaining 90% there isn't much hope!
