why do chinese like to kick the back of people's seats? i've been to the movies over 7 times, all 3 times when someone was behind me they were kicking the back of my seat. is this done on purpose to annoy foreigners? the seats in theaters have a lot of leg room so people can walk by. so it is difficult for me with my long legs to even touch the seat in front of me. so how is it that someone with short legs can consistently kick the back of my chair? any thoughts or similar experiences?
Do all Chinese people do this?
crimochina:
learn to read. if you were a native speaker you would be able to recognize a generalization. are you from the uk also. haha
snowballeffect:
But why generalise about something that you have only experienced 3/7 times (which is it, 3 or 7, that part didnt make sense).......I would be willing to bet that most countries in the worlds' cinemas have similar problems. Maybe you would be best to stay at home , you seem to have so many issues with 'Chinese' that you feel the need to generalise about everything you experience once. Grow up.
This just happened to me on the bus yesterday. You know what I did? I turned around and glared at the guy for 30 seconds. He was scared shitless and had the most embarrassed look on his face.
Next time that happens, let him know who is in control. If he did it again while I was sitting there, I was ready to get up and kick him in the face.
As for why they do it, I have no idea. It really pisses me off though.
I look at many rude things I experience as just childish and immature. Like the staring, whispering and laughing. Growing up didn't we all do stupid shit? Or was it just me? I did maniac or dumb things and everyone thought I bought the farm many times.
诸葛亮:
Laughing? So I can't be the only one experiencing this then? Chinese men look at me and laugh all the time, and they often stare at me with the most idiotic and smug appearance on their faces.
TedDBayer:
It doesn't happen very often, usually two young guys, pointing and giggling, I usually go over and tell them they are rude. If they don't speak english, then I point at thier crouch and show little size with my fingers and laugh.
诸葛亮:
Lol.
I get it every day here. The girls like looking at me, but the young guys are always pointing and laughing. I guess that's why they're still single.
MrTibbles:
And remember, putting your hand over your mouth while yelling at high volume means that no one can hear you talking!
I can't say for sure, but I assume it has something to do with them not being aware of, or not caring about, how their actions affect others. Common courtesy seems to be lacking in China. People spit in buses because they want to get rid of the bad germs, but don't think about who may step in that spit. The same goes for tossing trash. I think this sort of behavior is not necessarily intentional. However, if they are kicking your seat on purpose, what a bunch of jerks.
GuilinRaf:
I agree with what you say, except that in terms of tossing trash, sometimes there is just not a single rubbish bin for hundreds of meters, therefore people must somehow make do which may include tossing rubbish on the ground.
LAR:
Good comments! No, common courtesy IS LACKING here. No seems about it. Regarding Chinese ill-mannered behavior, one could also include smoking, talking and gossiping about others, making disrespectful comments about mixed race couples, etc. * One could compile a huge list! Straight up!
They hate you because you are foreign.
crimochina:
derek don't you know anything??? chinese people only treat blacks badly
derek:
I can't believe he said, "A color problem". I mean, is he joking or what?
blaineholloway:
They hate you more because you are black. It's seen as dirty here, like a monkey.
This is a new one for me...I feel bad for you Crimochina, somehow, somehow, all the ill behavior of the Chinese nation seems to head straight to head to you, as if so predestined. I am glad that I am not in your shoes. Notwithstanding the comments re spitting, pushing, etc., etc., I have found the Chinese people to be relatively polite.
It happens more so than in western countries for sure. I don't tolerate it and show my aggression, and they stop.
Crimo now you know this happens everywhere in the world. This happens sometimes in the states too with little children. I had a kid kick the back of my chair here and in the states so it's a common thing that happens with little kids the naughty one's at least. They shouldn't be allowed in if they do that. They should get kicked out no refund and have the parents leave with them.
crimochina:
you are compare little children kicking the back of seats to fully grown adults?????? seriously?
Because people some of these blithering people have it coming to them! I have had this happen SO MANY TIMES.. frankly I just stare the person down. And if by some chance they want to escalate things.. well I just act RAGING HOMOSEXUAL and start blowing them kissing, whatever.. it makes even the most staunchly masculine asshole feel embarrassed. And I of course have a good laugh~
LAR:
Masque, I would love to see your act!! lol lol! Especially to see the looks on the faces of the Chinese!!!!!!! Ha ha ha :)
Haha yes they do that...and it starts to remind me of Southern Italy...I lived in Calabria for a year, which is NOT Europe for sure ahahah.
Yelling, pushing...kicking seats...I remember getting on a plane to go to Finland...then took another one to go to another city in Finland...you can imagine the difference between those 2 LOL..First one was like a kindergarten (very similar to China), Finnish one was like a graveyard...NO sound at all!!!!
Do you guys think that Chinese people who read this thread believe that they actually act like children a large percentage of the time? I think they would disagree with us with the age old expression, "In China....blah, blah, blah". Nonsense I say.
Anyway.....
I also have experienced this seat kicking behaviour from teens and what appeared to be university students. Clearly not children - but the adolescent behaviour was on par with something one might see at a kindergarten. I believe that most older kids and students have no idea how to behave when not under the watchful eye of their teachers, parents or grandparents. These "role models" are present to tell the "kids" what to do and when to do it. Notice I left out "How to do it". This, I believe is neglected as the elder set will just shout commands like, "Work hard, study hard, come here, stop that, eat, no, do it, shut up, that's wrong, you'd better....., and we don't do it that way".
Agree with Derek above.
Then again, this summer there was this big ruckus about this drunken Westerner on a D-train from Shenyang to Beijing that spent the entire trip kicking the back of the seat of the lady in front of him -- filmed on mobile phone cam and then posted on the Web. He was abusive, too and I think that he was fired from his job and deported.
Anyway, this behavior happens all over and it's not always the Chinese, although the rabid China haters on this site would like everyone to believe that it only the Chinese.
crimochina:
don't twist the story. we all know the story so don't twist it. Russia, is not a western country. only chinese consider russia to be a western country. your slip is showing.
In regards to the original question, this is why we try to buy our tickets early, so we can choose seats in the very back row. Then you're only left with the other intrusions into enjoying the movie: phones ringing, loud talking, people getting up and coming back to their seats multiple times, etc.
Well, then put your headphones on and enjoy the loudest music you have
