I want to look for airplane tickets to Thailand and to America from China. I know sites like kayak, and ctrip, but I want to know what people in China use to get cheap round trip tickets for the summer.

I use qunar.com. It's a Chinese site and you'll probably need a Chinese friend to help you pay for the tickets. And pay attention to the extra tax they add on.
Skyscanner/tianxun or ctrip.
I still swear by the Western ones (kayak, orbitz, cheaptickets, cheapoair, exc. I onlycheck the above two on the remote chance that they have a better deal that a. exists, b. isnt on the other websites.
Also,go directly to the airline websites. Occasionally, they have special packages and deals. I never just pay through the search engine sites without giving the actual airline website a check.
Chinese ticket websites are overpriced. Considering income inequality and epic bad manners, it's probably a good thing.
if you have a creditcard, just go to foreign websites to book online. if not, ask a friend abroad to book for you. it will almost halve the costs, compared to booking from baidu.

I found something great with ICBC app for Android that saved me about 400rmb on a ticket compared to CTRIP and qunar. You will need to log in to your account online and search for the flights. In my experience among all the three mentioned it has the lowest prices. It shows you all the prices with the cheaper one highlighted in red.
You can purchase the ticket using your ICBC debit card. Be aware of security breaches. I don't keep money in the account but so far that app didn't let me down.
hi2u:
Wow good tip, I just checked my China merchants bank app and it also has a ticket booking function, never noticed that before. But I still found cheaper tickets on qunar.
The same question:
Lately I'm looking for ticket for my father to visit me in Europe this summer.
Return tickets from China to Europe double the price from Europe to China.
laughable
If buying tickets online, remember to clear your cookies everytime you return to a website. I know of a particular ferry company that changed their prices every time someone visited their website. First visit, input dates etc, price was ok. go back later, price went up.
