Q: Why do people believe in Chinese medicine?

Accupuncture and stuff like that have received some credit, but for the more extreme stuff, like snake skin, ivory, etc...it just sounds like hocus-pocus. It's based on nothing.

Rhino poaching went up like 300% in just a year between 2009 and 2010 because people believe rhino horns cure cancer...are people really that gullible? Killing off endangered species over an unproven tradition?

It is a fact that some of modern medicine came from Chinese TCM.

I actually believe in TCM..  My girlfriend has a skin sickness in her endocrine system that would typically be treated by modern medicine with endocrine boosters which are in fact life threatening if not administered in exact dosages at exact intervals and also ridiculously expensive and require regular hospital visits.

There is Chinese TCM that significantly reduces her skin sickness symptoms with no apparent side effects and no life threatening danger.  It comes from a flower and it's very cheap by any standards.  So that's proof enough to me that it works.

Modern medicine isn't as advanced as some people would like you to believe.  Especially true when it to treating endocrine system deficiencies where modern medicine often tries to brute force a solution which could escalate an annoying recurring sickness into something that becomes life threatening.

My girlfriend was on modern medicine some years ago for treatment to the endocrine system and almost died from it. Possibly due to negligence from the hospital staff or doctors but could just as well have been that the cause of endocrine system deficiencies often aren't well understood in modern medicine.

Worked for me, I had some calluses on my foot and the doctor offered to cut them off (which would be extremely painful) or could soak in a bath of Chinese Medicine once a day, for 30 minutes, over 10 days. Guess what, 10 days later they were 90% gone, just the dosage was wrong so I went back for another look and they prescribed the same thing for a further 5 days. After that I was callus free, zero hospitalization or sick-days and the pleasure of having a foot bath each and every day!

I am sure that some of it does work extremely well but that some of it is as valid as tin foil hats to stop the CIA/NSA spying on you. Very little, if any, has been offered up for peer review or serious scientific analysis. There is a lot very simple thinking with Chinese people in this area, things like eating skin is good for your skin, eating heart is good for your heart etcetera. I would be very interested in seeing an unbiased scientific review of natural medicines, but of course we would have the pharmaceutical industry pushing their noses in trying to protect their massive profits.

I inherently trust acupuncture; I inherently distrust the rest of TCM.
