On thing I actually like is the main Public area in Town the Square.
In the evening there is lots to see and do.
Besides the Dancing Aunties and their dance battles you can see the Kung fu practice the odd kite graceing the sky or in combat with a $20 drone.maybe do some roller blading.
While avoiding the numerous battery powered kiddie cars were Chinese learn to drive.
My kids have been doing jump rope most nights . It's good to see them away from electronic gadgets.
The sounds of a 2 string violin accompanied by a high pitched flute are ony drowned out by the Beijing opera singers.
Nothing like this at home sadly.

That's something I think is great about China, the way people hang out in their neighborhood in the evenings.
Summer is awesome, people eating BBQ and drinking beer on the street, the dancing aunties, old guys sitting on little wooden stools and playing a board game or cards while about ten other old guys stand around watching, badminton, exercising, people walking around in their pyjamas, the tai chi people, the musicians... there's an exciting, vibrant community feel to it that you just don't get at home because the people at home are mostly spacing out watching stupid reality tv or game shows.

I think that back home our parks have a focus on grassed areas and the licensing costs of food carts and entertainment is a big negative factor. Like many things in western countries they have gone beyond keeping it simple. Warnig topic of tomorrows trivial post
Stiggs:
It might have something to do with the sheer number of people all living on top of each other too. People in western countries often have a back yard to do things in, Chinese don't have that space so everyone is out on the street or in the few parks etc instead.

As you saw on my pengyou qian recently, the square (actually circular) is quite lively. My life is enriched by going there sometimes and being known in the village greases many local wheels.
Go up there to buy some fruit or have a shao ye snack. Have a beer and a laugh with people who speak no acknowledged language, then go home as the best ambassadoe my country has ever had in China. I
