Most, if not all, of my friends have a real problem with it and still pull a face when they hear/see it. I honestly don't care and actually do it myself sometimes. Anyone else not have a problem with it?
Let's take the Chinese approach: it's bad, so get it out, any where, any time. Let's take the western approach: it's bad, but let's get it out in a manner and place least likely to gross other people out, and not expose others to the germs that we may be harboring. It takes less than a minute to find somewhere or some means to do the latter. What is the cornerstone of a 'civilized' society if not the consideration of others?
Yes, I have huge problem with it, specialy while I eat a nd salive is flying just few centimeters from my food !!!!!!
FLY AWAY PLEASE !

You're probably not thinking it is that bad because you're actually Chinese. I know there are parts of Africa where people also spit, but then again, they also live in huts built of elephant dung.
Yes mate, you are the only one on here who doesn't have a problem with this most disgusting of habits.
What kind of grub thinks that hacking up a great golly wherever you happen to be walking, regardless of what/who's around you, is a reasonable thing to do?
Methinks a brainless, inconsiderate, lazy arsehole of a grub.
What a stupid question to ask!

I don't only want to T-bone the cars that cut me off, I want to knock the filthy spitters right out!
Might start today!
Yes you are!
What kind of place do you come from??????
I don't do it on people's faces. or even anywhere around them. I've never had an experience where a Chinese person has even come close to spitting on me or even that near me. It just happens when walking on the street or when the cab driver is stopped at a traffic light and he opens the door to spit. This honestly doesn't bother me. I don't see it as rude either, it's what they do here. You can't bring your own ides of what is rude from your own countries. I didn't.
royceH:
That's frogshit matey. They do it everywhere, and with more gusto when a foreigner is close by.
Sometimes it feels like one has to duck and weave.
The Scandinavian has nailed you good and proper!

Yes. Yes, you can. Disease pathology doesn't magically change when you cross borders.
it disgusts me all the time. I once got spit right on my face while riding ebike with an old lady ebike rider ahead of me and spitting. It was like using my face as a baseball glove to catch a spit-ball she pitched out..................

I received this greeting once in taxi, years ago, from some "lama" on the sidewalk ... The driver didn't want to stop ...

I literally would have just died.....all this talk really makes me reconsider coming to China..i just can't handle gross shit like that....I would just die...my god!
What on God's earth is happening inside your tiny mind ? This is just one example of just how weird these people are - and you are happy with it ?!?
Enlighten us... Where are you from ?
Well, I'm not Chinese, although there's no way of proving that. I am in fact from Africa, but contrary to Scandinavia's ignorant statement, I do not live in a hut 'built of elephant dung', neither do I know anyone who does. Even in Africa people do not spit and it is frowned upon to do so. So I'm guessing this is just my own feeling. 入乡随俗.

If you were really non-Chinese, then you would understand what " in some parts..." mean. Scandinavian's point is clear. Not comprehending it is a product of your limited knowledge of English, ie Chinese getting angry at Kimmel.
Anyone for laugh?
Q: How do you deal with dry skin in Beijing?

"It puts the cream on its skin or it gets the hose again." Aloe vera or other hydrating lotions as opposed to oil-based lotions.

LOL, No, movie 'Silence Of The Lambs': girl is abducted by psychopath, and chained into 4 m deep hole. Abductor sits on the top of the hole, and demand girl '(it) rubs the lotion onto her (its) skin, or he'll hose her (it) with cold water, again.'
He also starve her, so she would lose weight. Girl survive and gets rescued by the end.Abductor is 'tailoring' suit out of human skin(s). 'Lotion' (will) soften the skin, before removal and death. 1/2 of the 'suit' is already done, so 'serial killer is out there'. Great flick in 1991.
However, 2nd part of Sino's advice is very good, just…if you imagine, Sino (sits on the top of the hole), and replies to Redaria as in the movie….. I'm on my spare O2 bottle. I need more O2 this week somehow, 'cause am hanging around here.It makes my skin crawl. I'm staying in a hotel and I can hear it from next door and in the hall, every where I go. I see it where I walk and yes I do look where I step. If there's such a need, then why don't I feel it? I do feel like barfing sometime, but don't. I read that it comes from an old superstition, breathe in evil spirits, must spit it out. Only the Chinese could never figure out that if you breathe it in, you can breathe it out. Just more irrational Borg mentality thinking.
as in a previous post on this topic, i pointed out how spitting was connected with the spread of diseases like TB. At home in the 1940's and '50's there was a concerted campaign to eradicate this by public habit across all the media outlets of the time. TB was seen as a disease only the really poor had and it was shameful to catch it at the time. I also remember seeing a old Chinese news-reel on the same subject: children pointing out to their elders how unhygienic this habit is. Fewer people do it where i am now - thankfully! BUT it is still noticable when people clear their throats in readiness for spitting. I always feel like shouting "incoming!!" and duck for cover.
Spitting does not bother me much. I spit. I don't do the hawking bit though.
What I dislike about Chinese people is that they are always LOUD, and everything with them is LOUD. They talk loud, the music is always LOUD (had lunch in a fast food place with music on way, way loud). Sometimes I wish I were deaf here so I can tune it out. Last year when I was doing my medical exam for my visa, I was chattering away and the nurse told me to be quiet, which I joked (in a Johnny Carson like way) that a Chinese person telling someone to be quiet is like an Irishman telling you to stop drinking!
I don't hear it that often here in Dongguan, but it is usually taxi drivers that do it at red lights, open their door and spit.
It doesn't bother me that much but it does bother my wife, she says it makes her feel sick!
