Q: Do you judge other 'foreigners'?

Whether maliciously or unconsciously most of us have judged the Chinese in one way or another, maybe for the way they do things or how they conduct themselves etc.

But I'm intrigued...what about the other foreigners here? Do you judge them the same/more harshly/less so?

I think when you move somewhere new, you are expected to roam within fine lines, if you're too 'crazy' and drink too much, or are too spontaneous and carefree you will be stamped as reckless. I also think if you say no to alcohol and frequenting fun places and keep to yourself you will be stamped as a fun sucking prude.

Sometimes I wonder how I am perceived by the other expats here? What's your thoughts on this?

Yes, I like to judge other foreigners. It makes me feel better about myself. Where else in the world can you go and see someone more dysfunctional than yourself with such consistency?

I try not to, I REALLY do.

Unfortunately, I have a bit of a problem witb not judging other Americand.
Specifically, other American men.
MORE specificalky, other American men between 25-40 yrs old.
EVEN MORE specifically, otber American men between 25-40 yrs old who are not veterans.
Politics aside, if your country is at war, you should serve (agree ordisagree, thats how I see the world)

This is part of the reason why I left USA; there is less of a chance of me running.i.to someone who fits that description in China.

So, bringing back Conscription would solve your angst then.  And save you having to flee.

Lobby that idea back home and see how you go.  There's no shortage of right wing wackos who'd support you.

Or another idea... If you've got a billion dollars lying around doing nothing you could organise to become Commander-In-Chief all by yourself!

Democracy, USA style!

WOOHOO...

Addit;  Yesterday was ANZAC Day and, as a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, mate and ex-soldier, I felt a little homesick.

I found myself missing my country, where the people are free to choose the lifestyle they prefer.

They can serve, or self serve...it's up to them.

But the fact they have that choice is not the reason I choose not to live there.

Cheers!

So you automatically disapprove of most other Americans? Do you judge the women this way? Do you have the same criteria for other foreigners?

There are 11 Americans at my school and you would only approve of two. Interesting.

How can I judge? 80% of them turn themselves into a king once they step into Asia. They talk to no one but themselves. So I can't judge.

Yes.  Because the expats I encounter in my city are from countries that don't have the same social 'norms' that I'm familiar with.

So, judged they are.

Oh to meet a person who knows, and follows, the rules.

Rule 1;  If I shout first, you shout second.  And so on...

No more rules.

As you will now probably guess, there's no other Aussies, Kiwis or Pommy's in my city.
