Yeah, it is true.  It is called Zuo yue zi.  And not only in bed, but allowed to do nothing at all, not even get up to go pee, take a shower, or eat.  One solid month, thirty days in that bed.  And her mother will move in and do take care of the baby while she is in bed.

During these 30 days ( and many feel...

    1. They are changing to fake Army car nameplate while entering expressway. This is to save toll fee.. Army Cars no need pay toll.. When come out of expressway they will change back as normal police might catch.

What you ate is not a nest made of straws, twigs or small branches, feathers, etc, but an authentic bird nest made by a bird in SE Asia who makes his nest out of his dried saliva.

Authentic bird's nest soup is made using the nests of the Swiftlet, a tiny bird found throughout southeast Asia. The Swiftlet lives in...

The main reasons are safety and tradition.  Normally, the first meetings with a girl are in group functions such as parties, large dinners, etc...  Chinese consider it not proper for a girl to go out alone with a guy for the first time(...

I guess that would depend on who you ask, or what you read. I just finished the latest book by Henry Kissinger, called "On China." He, of course, was instrumental in paving the way for a relationship between the United States and China under Richard Nixon, and has met with every Chinese leader since Mao.

A central figure in modern Chinese history, Zhou, like so many of...

By marrying a Chinese woman, you don't get any advantages if you decide to stay in China:

    1) if you don't have a job and remain in China with a family type resident permit, then both you and your future wife will struggle to get papers and renew your documents. You will have to go renew your resident permit every year and go through the hassles of...

When I came back to China after 2 weeks of vacation in Japan, that was definitely the lowest point of my life in China. I could honestly say I hated China at that time. I was staying with a student, where they had not finished building their new house and had not truly moved into it. I was sick, constantly cold, there was no heat of any kind, no hot water unless it was boiled and in a...

In China, just as in many other countries, you must present the original document and a copy, They will examine both to insure that everything is OK, keep the copy and return the original.

You can request from the Registrar Office of your univeristy a copy of your degree, many charge around $ 30 US dollars for it.  IOt will be an original one, just like the one you were...

    Hey Chinese American Male:

Let me be real with you.  I look Asian.

I was hired last summer by an international school in china and have been working here since. The kids love me, the school supports me and the parents "buy" my style of teaching.

How I got in? I know there is a ***SELECTIVE SKIN ISSUE*** going on. Any Asian (especially, the orients)...

Normally, the license plates I see have a Chinese character towards the far left (that character is the province abbreviation character), then a letter, and after that 5 alphanumerical characters.

As I was told, in my province the first letter on the far left (after the Chinese character) defines the city within that province, and in my case again, "A" would mean Nanning....

I do not trust or use real estate agents for renting a place, since their fee is based on the rental charged to you, they will not have their best interests in mind when dealing with you.  Also remember that most apartments listed on Internet are listed by rental companies (or real estate agents), not their owners.  Again, they will not be willing to lower the rent or negotiate a...

The International Drivers License is not accepted in China to drive, nor the one from your original country.

To get a Chinese driver's license, you must be under 65 years of age, and pass a physical exam (maybe only eye exam) in some cases.   If you have a valid license from your home country, you will only be required to pass the written exam.  That will be 100...

I've been aware of your question for a while, and have been thinking about it. Here's my take on it, both from practical experience and observation.

Yes, it is possible, but you will find the terms "traditional" and "conservative" quite different from your own understanding. This will have to do with the gulf between your and her cultures, and how that...

ExPats in China are now subject to two different types of taxes, one is on income, and another is like the Social Security as in the USA.

On income, you have still 4 years without worries, but if interested you check out the following web page

I've made pizza at home and here are the best tips I can give you:

1.)  Use imported flour if you can find it.  The Chinese brands are not the best quality flour and they often have other things added (like baking soda/powder) specifically for steaming.

2.)  Most ovens I have seen here don't have the ability to go up to the proper temperatures that should...

    Ryan:

The fine is limited to a maximum amount of 5,000 Rmb, but you have a visa expired for 6 months now, and that is just not a few days. It would be hard to plead ignorance of expiration date, and any other pausable excuses.

In my opinion, it is better to face the facts and volunteer yourself in that be found. The worst case scenario will be to be deported, and maybe face an up...

Pre-natal vitamins: Anything by a company called Ferguson (They specialize in pre-natal vitamins/supplements) and I can personally say they are quality stuff.

Hospital, if you can afford it, a private room is by far the best.  The hospital my wife gave birth at was quite good (in Guangzhou).  If the woman was giving natural birth (they will always try to push for c-sections),...

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
