Personally, I don't think it is a matter of giving face to the man when women are submissive in public. Being smarter than that, they act they way they act in order to get what they want. A man will respond more readily to a submissive attitude than a confrontational one. So, the woman knows what works, depending on the personal relationship. Obviously, men do the same thing. If being...

It will depend.  The chargers now days that the electronics you mention each have are made to work with either a 220 or 110 volts input.  Mut you need to confirm this by looking at the end of the charger where it plugs into the wall outlet.  In very small letters on the plastic, seek for what it says as INPUT VOLTAGE.  If only 110 volts you will need to buy a rectifier/...

If you can offer products not on there for decent prices, I'd say go for it.
Keep in mind that most people who use Taobao are Chinese, so that's where you're going to make most of the money.  I'd go bi-lingual and use the fact that you're a foreigner as a selling point.

Keep in mind however that this is a much bigger undertaking than you might realize....

The Chinese prefer their meat to be fully cooked - meaning not bloody at all.  I've gone out for "steak" before and ordered it med-rare which almost caused the people I was with to be sick.

I think it goes back to health concerns and the possibility of illness and TCM practices.  Eating raw vegetables (ie salad) is a relatively new practice here - they cook the...

In general, I would have to say no, they are not at all like brothels, and in fact, some are even segregated by sex, with young kids going with their mamas.  And some are just everyone together, like those called "public bath houses", open for passerbyes to look at whomever is there.

and just like there could be a rotten apple in a barrel of good apples, I am sure that...

Consulates don't generally help with legal issues unless you are arrested and detained. At that point, they will only check to be sure you are being treated humanely. They can only intervene after going through the proper channels and only as deemed necessary.

A couple for-instances: The hikers who were detained in Iran; Amanda Knox in Italy.

Wow, this is an old question I found that I guess I missed.

My 3 favorite teas here which I find have made great gifts:

1.)  Jasmine tea - usually a green or white tea infused with jasmine flowers.  Te best kind (in my opinion) omes from Fujian.  It's a bit sweet and very fragrant.  Vey popular when I bring this back home.

    2.)  Yunnan Pu'er...

Here's a novel idea, rent a house in the outskirts...there's lots of them! For just a weekend (and the weather will still be too cold for long excursions outdoors) you can have the run of a whole house. Maybe you can find one with a fireplace (pure romanticism) and the peace and quiet means you'll be able to actually talk and enjoy yourselves.

    Back in the old...

    Man, I love this argument.

Here is the simple truth:  China makes most of it's money manufacturing cheap ass goods primarily for the US.  The US STILL manufactures a lot of goods, but mostly hi-tech goods.

Amazingly, the growth rocket you've been seeing in China has mostly been driven by exports to the US.  The US, in a financial crisis right now (nowhere...

Red stands for happiness and good fortune.  In ancient times, it was the color adopted by the royalty and ruling classes as a symbol of wealth and power, and that has also persisted through to this day (ex.  the walls of the Forbidden Palace are what color?).

During Chinese new year, red scares off the Nian (a big lion-dragon beast - I'm sure you've seen statues of it...

Here is info from another post I made, copied for your convenience:

Yes. All western. Forget the handfuls of yellow, green, and brown pills...Here's the most common western medicine for stomach and diarrhea (cha cha cha):

洛哌丁胺 - lou pai ding an - Loperamide (Immodium)
西咪替丁 -xi mi ti ding - Cimetidine (Tagamet)
奥美拉唑 - ao mei la zuo - Omeprazole (prilosec....

Weird question first, but hearme out.  Do you have cats?

I suppose it doesn't really matter, but it will kill 2 birds with one stone if you do!

Plant some small herb pots of catnip and place them on your window sills of anywhere near an opening that mosquitoes might come in.

The oil in catnip is about 10 times more effective than DEET in repelling mosquitoes....

It's not lactose inolerance.  Lactose is one of the things consumed by bacteria during the cheese making process, so most cheese is lactose free as the lactose is found mostly in the whey (which is discarded).  Almost all hard cheeses and aged cheeses are lactose free.

I think that Cheese (or butter) never took hold in China for a few reasons.  First, most ariable...

Tonal languages are obsolete and have been for thousands of years.  If I said "hi" to you as a greeting or if I said "HiiiIIIIIgghhhh!!!"...  Ugh, ridiculous.

Mandarin Chinese has 1600 different "words" you can say.  That's it.  Combine initials and finals, there are actually only 400 x 4 tones = 1600.

    This language is so...

Foreign pharma is extremely limited here simply because if it were available it would push A LOT of companies out of business.

There are some local brands (and as said above, some large companies like Bayer and Pfizer are here in a limited capacity) that are acceptable.

If you can let me know what you are looking for, I can give you a point in the right direction.

    Here are...

As long as you have a valid residence permit in your passport, you can quit a job, give notice, whatever and get a new job.

Your new company will need to convert your current work permit or foreign experts license because you need to be "sponsored" by a company here.  You'll need to provide your new company with all the usual documents, your current alien work permit/...
