I often feel like a rich kid in China... Until I saw and read the BBC article about Rich kids of China on instagram, now I feel like a poor mug!

To help those in genuine need and take the piss out of those who deserve it.

It can be a laugh, and I can share some experiences.

  • May 11,2016

Sorry to necro a thread, but I hope to share some good news with the expat community.
I recently landed a job and signed a contract with Beijing University of Technology and Business.
My previous employer has been compliant in providing necessary paperwork and even a good recommendation for a successful transfer of my visa.
All I can say is I'm grateful to everyone's help and...

Generally if it is a chinese girl under 30 there a good chance she will speak at least some english. Boys, probably not much more than Helllllooooo! heheheh.

I have a white foreign friend (who is quite ill at the moment, sadly), he can't speak english - only portugese and putonghua - so we often get shocked looks from the locals when we hang out babbling away in terrible...

Yes, if you have a degree from the UK and you have your 120-hour TEFL you can get hired on a Z-visa.

Also, one of the recruiters sent me this:

schools in china can hire non-native english speaker as long as this teacher has 2-year working enperience in teaching english in a english- speaking country,or 5-year working experience of working in a english-speaking...

I have a few Chinese friends who got their driving license and will be the first to say they are either terrible drivers, or can't drive at all. My ex girlfriend is one of them, she told me how it worked when she did it.

Like Xinyuren said, the driving school is not concerned about putting competent drivers on the road, their only concern is money.

It's possible. A colleague of mine did it in Wuxi. He out a form in, waited a week or two and then went and picked up the money in cash.

ill contact him and ask what was required.

I have mixed feelings about that term, because obviously it's used by shitty people to paint us all, but the concept isn't manufactured out of whole cloth either.

I dont worry about what xenophobic local losers think, but between other expats I apply that term to people with shitty attitudes and grand delusions.

It does NOT apply to somebody who...

Hi, I happen to work for Tencent. (company that owns WeChat)

If you are just looking to register a normal WeChat account, a Chinese cellphone number is all you need.

If you are looking to register for public account (公众号), which other WeChat users can subscribe, at this moment the public account is only open to Chinese ID holders.

Write an email and ask for a written explanation of what is going on, outlining the fact that you have not received any complaints up until then.

Xinjiang beer is called Wusu (the brewery is in Wusu, a small city a couple of hours nth/west of Urumqi).  It comes in green (peasant), red (prince) and gold (king) and it's better than anything else in China.  Oh yeah, they also make a black.  It's good too but a bit sweet.

I've read that before about Snow beer and I have to say that, despite living in China for 6...

well, I have done so in Fangcheng Gang, Guangxi Province,

Can get apartment for 5100 kuai sq meter including terminations, maybe further goodies too.  Real nice.  Located on South China Sea shoreline, 150,000 persons as population, about 50 Kms from Vietnam border.

Do have account at Bank of China in HKG, receive dollars, change to kuai, and use debit card here.

    I dont think so.

It all depends on the way its used and the 'intent' behind it.

It reflects more on the person who uses it.. not the receiver. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Smile

I'm undecided on this one. It is used In a derogatory way on expat sites to describe uneducated & uncultured Chinese people. Actually it depends how you define uneducated. My MIL is uneducated in that she only went to school for 1.5 years and can't even speak Mandarin. Is she a Nong? No, not in the way it is used on expat sites as she has manners and is polite. Yes, in that she is...

I am in China because -

I realized teaching is my passion!

It's so much easier living here

    A lot of opportunities

Making good money and not working 9 to 5

    Colorful place, decent weather

I have a colorful life, not the kind of life I had in England

What I can understand is that real qualification and teaching experience does not matter much. If then that is the case,is China really achieving their goal/aim especially in acquisition of English. I know of a fact that a qualified and experienced English Language teacher from Africa is more beneficial than a Geology graduate native speaker teaching English.

Too much propaganda against dating foreigners in Chinese mass media recently, consequently the majority of girls in 4th-tier cities and around half in 2nd-3d tier cities try to stay away from foreigners, regardless of a country. People living in 1st tier cities usually don't believe national mass media. So make your conclusions, what part of China you want to live in.

LOL, for "White Fever" to go away it needs to exist in the first place. Why is it that some people always need to find weird justification as to the existence of WM/AF couples? Yellow fever and White fever, hahaha please, my loved one has photos of handsome Chinese guys on her phone.

I don't go around trying to find odd justifications as to "why" there are AM/WF couples, I'm just happy...

On like Africans, teaching is a gift. Most Africans in foreign countries always have the zeal and determination to adapt to any change and give out their best to satisfy their employers and students in teaching jobs. Africans should be given the opportunity to prove their skills and learn from your upgraded ideas to benefit the world as a whole

In Shanghai there is an area called Moganshan Lu, which is very arty. I used to live right in the middle of it. Another area is Tianzifang, but I think this is more touristy rather than being for serious artists. But that's just my impression of the place, I might be wrong.
