Maybe. I'm not quite sure if there's any help other than the desire to do better for your family. This is China, where getting drunk is celebrated, though most people have jobs to keep busy so they can't drink all day.

You could try asking around in hospitals for detox programs. Keep in mind you can die from delerium tremens (see...

I believe so many of you have heard about the downside of Chinese girls, how materialistic they are and how dishonest they can be. Guys, I feel extremely sorry for this, yet you just have bad luck. If I'm asked this question, my answer will be LOVE. I know, you may say I'm just lying. Ok, let's don't talk about me here then. I use my girl friends as examples.

    From high...

Yeah it's fairly easy. You just approach the bar or venue where you want to perform and ask if they have an open slot for your band (usually you need to gove them about 6 weeks notice as most organized bars will arrange their event schedule at least a month in advance). Many places will be willing to let you perform as the opening act together with a few other more established bands. However,...

This whole "western media hating on China" or "Chinese media hating on the west" phenomenon is why I'm so intrigued by the future direction of social media and its influence on the mainstream sources. I sincerely hope that it will have a balancing effect on news media slant on both sides.

While it's not perfect yet, I'm also a big fan of news aggregate services like...

Ok, let me tell my story. My major was English when I was in college, and believe it or not, I spent 5 years in two different colleges to get a degree. Was it worthy? YES! Am I making a lot of money? NO! However, I couldn't do my job if I don't know any English! I like English as a language, the culture and lifestyle behind it help me to understand this world in many ways. I wouldn't say it's...

Use a cup of flat beer. Roaches love it. Get a cup with smooth sides and let it sit out at night. Make sure the roaches will be able to get in. The roaches will fall into the beer, thinking it's super delicious and drown horribly in the beer. No idea why it works but I've seen people clear out whole clans of roaches in a few days.

Use the roach traps, wash dishes...

Ok, I don't know about other girls, how they want to live their life. As for me, I'm from countryside originally, I spent 3 years in a village with my grandma and uncle. Other than that, I spent most of my time in the city center, but that doesn't mean I had a lot of money. I've been living alone since I was 15, mostly in school dorms until I graduated from university around 2 years. I've...

How? It has made me fatter and it has helped me to gain more wrinkles and white hairs  cool

    Good question and good luck!

In the few years I've been in China I've looked for non teaching jobs almost every single day. It's one of the first things I do soon as I hop on the internet most days.

In those couple of years of looking every single day I've only been able to land one non teaching job. I really love the job but I dread it's coming to an...

I struggled with this. I taught in a training school, and some of the kids were just obviously suffering from some kind of learning disability - not engaging, not working with the other kids, not talking with the other kids, complete lack of social skills, all sorts of symptoms manifested in my classroom.

The parents didn't want to know about it: "they always get...

"That undervaluation of the renminbi acts as a subsidy for Chinese exports, artificially making them as much as 40 percent cheaper when sold in the U.S. Conversely, it acts as a tax of as much as 40 percent on American-made goods sold in China."

Darkstar - I agree with your synopsis. Al Jazeera is one of the few reliably objective media bodies now. I used to look at a variety of foreign sources for my South-East Asia news, but the number has narrowed considerably.

BBC News > SE Asia is really disappointing. Not because it is particularly propagandist, but because of the lack of insight. It strikes me that the...

Like many  websites, in my opinion it's too damn busy!

How about 3 or four pictures ONLY with headlines below and links to the full story, then text  links to other parts of the forum down one side where more sections can be found?

Think of UK Tabloid newspapers, one main story with a picture, perhaps a secondary story and everything else inside, (on...

I've been feeling the same way lately. My advice: Go home for a while until you get the itch to come back.

Over the past few months I've had several friends visit who previously lived here (and all ended up hating it near the end of their stays) and they've all had an amazing time back.

The first time this happened, I was pretty surprised, although now...

The work poermit does not come because you have a residence permit for whatever reason.  The only way to work legally in China is by having a work visa stamped on your passport.  Once you enter China with that work visa, it will expire in 30 days and you must obtain (or finish the process to obtain) your FEC, have a health check, obtain a work permit from the Labor Bureau (and now...

Anyone else think this is a bit of a joke?

No one in China plays by these rules.

I bought a Chinese brand set of headphones, they stopped working after 2 weeks, took them back and they wouldn't give me a refund.

I bought a generic charger for my ipad, because the official one was 300 rmb, it stopped working after 3 weeks, I went...

    Mr NiceBrice:

If I may offer a suggestion, before you go to a massage parlor, and so you have no worries, do stop at a pharmacy and buy a pair of surgical gloves, and ask the person giving you the massage to wear them before touching you, and end of worries.

Now, if you have to ask for "extra services", most probably the parlor does not provide therm,...
