I use QQ (international version), because almost all people here uses it, and second reason - QQi have built-in translator, that works just fine, and helps to communicate with those who don't know the languages that I know...

On principal I think the majority of Chinese still have something of a disliking for the Japanese, but as much as people are quick to make generalizations about other nations, they seem equally capable of suspending those same judgements when meeting a person of that same race, as in the case of your friend. I had a good Japanese friend who was treated decently during his...

First of all, China has always had a gender imbalance. The "more men than women" is not a direct result of the One Child Policy, and even historically there has been a gender imbalance in China because of the practice of female infanticide and tendency to not feed daughters during famines.

Secondly, some people prioritize other things over finding a mate. China has a lot...

if both parents of a baby born in China are foreigners, the baby will not be a Chinese citizen, so you must register the baby with the E,bassy of your country and request immediately a passport.  with the new passport issued, then you go to PSB and apply for a residence permit for the baby.

According to information provided by the People's Republic of China, a child born in China...

Because it's a competitive world and they want the best for them. Not saying I agree with the amount of work so many kids here have to do, but I think that's the main reason. Kind of like Michael Jackson's dad, pushing him so hard. Many people probably thought "Yeh, but look what it got him." Then of course there are the shit parents who just want their kid out the house, and of the...

Yes, you can. If you have an iphone you can download an app called Yaoyao zhaoche 摇摇招车 (http://www.yyzhaoche.com/). Through the app, you choose the car model, time and pick-up point and they will promptly come and collect you. And they're actually 20% cheaper than normal cabs!

I agree with Guilin Raf.  Do your homework ahead of time and quote them a competitive salary.  Having worked in HR as a hiring manager there are two reasons why they might ask you this question.  First they want to know how you value yourself.  Asking too little is a sign of your low self opinion or your inexperience in the field.  Second, they want to know if they can...

As posted on the website of the Chinese Embassy in UK, the following is valid from about mid January of 2012.

Since 16 January 2012 onwards, applicants applying for tourist and family visit visa should supplement the following supporting documents:

    1. Invitation letter from a Chinese organization or a permanent...

    My personal comparison:

    Security:

US - Invasive, degrading and run by a bunch of power hungry morons.  And it is a complete slap in the face to the personal freedoms the country is supposedly built on.

China - Less invasive, run by people who are actually nicer than the US monkeys and faster.  Yes, if you mess with them you will be going down...

I have had one for over one year now, and they do perform a service for the user, except when it rains.......

But if you are considering to buy one, better learn a few rules of usage that have helped me.

1.- do not speed, cruising at 20 to 30 kms will take you there safely, with plenty reaction time.

2.- avoid riding in a group, locals have difficulty driving straight....

I got married here back in 2006 and as an English guy really had very little idea of what was going to happen at the time.

It really starts a few days before with the photos. We spent a day at the studio having various pictures taken in various forms of clothing all supplied by the photography studio. Some photos are taken in house and others were outside at a couple of local parks....

There's a stigma against women smoking, and it's thought odd if a man doesn't smoke. Those are cultural, not health-related, norms.

Most men are completely happy to smoke in front of everyone and anyone - it used to piss me off to see them smoking in front of small children, but nobody else seemed to care. To a lesser extent, the expat guys became the same. I'm a non-...

Yes they can.  In fact, it is part of their duties to act as mediators. Just be sure to bring a friend who can interpret for you unless you speak the language well. Also, any documentation like contract, receipts etc. can help.

On the downside, if the landlord "says" he will return your deposit "tomorrow", this could go on indefinitely.  The police, for the most part will not...

Interesting question Alva, 15 years already since HK has returned to the motherland, and things have not got worse, have they ?

The Chinese government set the goal to improve the standard of living of mainland chinese for Shenzhen and for the Pearl delta, so that it levels that of the HK people, by then actual integration will be possible......I think that 10 to 15 years should see...

By Law, Chinese employers must have health insurance for their employees.  In fact, the reason foreigners can not get employment after reaching 65 years of age in China is because they can not be insured by a Health Plan.  They may cover accident insurance, but when you have an accident you may get hurt, and who will pay for that.  It seems to me that they are trying hard not to...

It is not legal to work for anyone other than the company listed on your work permit.  The chances of getting caught is minimal (though right now they are really cracking down on it), but if you do get caught, you will most likely be deported.

So you just have to ask yourself if it is worth it.

We are quite used to internet search sites but I have a suggestion:

Go to the Air Canada website and find a contact number. Phone them directly and give them your estimated travel time. They may surprise you by finding the lowest possible price available.

I have done this and was impressed when the Air Canada Customer Service...

This is a very good question for legal minds.  Unfortunately, there is not an easy way to give you a legal answer.  And please, allow me to explain and expand my answer first.

Basically, the answer will depend on which specific countries you do consider.  many countries do recognize marriages performed in another country, but it will be a bit harder to...

No, it is not possible to do that legally because the 'Z' visa is linked to your current WP/FEC which is employer specific. Therefore, you cannot legally have a second income on the visa and residence permit.

Should you decide to quit your current post and go into the restaurant business, you or your employer would have to cancel your RP. You would then probably have...

There are loads of animal shelters that need volunteers such as the Beijing Human and Animal Environmental Education Center. www.animalschina.org

Or you could volunteer at an orphanage or teach English to migrant children. There are some more tips here in this article:

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
