Q: The 100 day crackdown has started, are you ready ?
As informed in the local news today, the proposed 100 days crackdown on illegal immigrants has started in the Beijing area today. And it also seems that many other cities, towns and even provinces will soon announce similar plans.
Are you ready for it ?. Are you familiar with what you need if stopped by Police ?.
In case you are not, here is what you will have to have with you for the next 100 days ALL THE TIME, if you are 100 % legal in China.
All foreigners in China, at all times, MUST HAVE the following documents on his / her person, and show them to the Officers if requested to do so. It is not to have them home, is to have them with you at all times.
1.- The original of your Passport. Not a copy, but the original.
2.- a form issued by the local Police Station nearest to your home called "FORM FOR REGISTRATION OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE BY VISITORS". This form must be a valid one, the most current one after your last entry in China, or your after returning home from domestic trip and reporting your address in another place.
If you have those on you when stopped, and they are correct and valid, you will have no problems. I you do not, or if you are illegal, then do stay home as much as possible.

Thanks for the info.! I'll be as ready as anybody but I'm sure in 100 days they wouldn't be able to search all foreigners. I will be working most of the time and if I'm not working I'll be shopping or at home. I definitely won't be wandering the streets that police are patrolling that's for sure!
I doubt any policy like this will reach my city. I spend most of my time around the school so I rarely even see foreigners, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only young female foreigner here. If they see me, they'll probably know I'm here legally.
anyone know if this is going to be happening outside of Beijing?
I'm in Shanghai and it happened to me today. Luckily I had my documents with me.

Hey can u give details about how they stopped you? Did you have all ur documents with you? Something similar happened during olympics but I never heard of a real case happened.
Was there any aparent reason why they asked fo them?

They "do" crackdowns all the time. Just like when they were going to strictly forbid smoking in public places.
But it's more of a "You big meanies better listen, or else!" approach.
I don't like the sound of me constantly moving with my passport. Thieves will take advantage of the fact that they know most foreigners will have their passports on their person during these 100 days.
That's a huge risk to take. I'll take my chances of leaving my passport behind when I go out.

Will you leave all your money at home too since it is the same risk ?. Please do as you feel you should, just do not cry afterwards. Maybe should invest a few yuan on a belly money belt as I did.
I'm sorry, but how many "illegal" foreigners are there? If you have a visa, you're legal. No one is sneaking into China.

-You can have an L visa, enter China legally, start working and you are illegal now.
-You can have an F visa, enter China legally, start to work while here, and be illegal.
-You can have a visa, any kind, and enter China legally, then overstay it, or fail to leave when it expires, and become illegal.
-You enter China under a visa legally, marry a local Lady and get Residence Permit because of that, then divorce her later and continue living here with the "family" residence permit, and you also become illegal.- Do I need to continue ?

That's working illegally, it isn't being in China illegally. How are they going to know you're working?
The only way they are going to catch people is buy going to companies and requesting to see visa permits.

Many illegal workers are sex trade workers from south east asian countries, people fleeing from North Korea (North Koreans would be the worst as they have no passport/visa anything).
Others include shady training centers who employ on L/F visas. Students wanting to earn some cash on the side.
What I would like to see from this published results of how many they have "successfully" caught.
Details include - Country, reason, then ways they can improve the entry and exits of foreigners in China
I'm going to have to back Happy on this one. I posted not long ago to Ryan123. Remember him right! On that post I warned everyone that in the days to come what would be happening, one month ago. Although, most foreigners will not be caught in 100 days, it will continue until next April, way beyond 100 days. I have the opportunity to speak with the government quite often in different provinces, they are not creating new rules, they are enforcing old rules. They are not specifically targeting L/F visa workers, they are targeting expired and non valid visas. Although working on a L/F visa is illegal, it's a large part of a money making business that goes directly into the PSB's pocket. If you think that you are working on a L/F and they don't know, then that would be foolish, for the most part, training schools and agencies have connections with the PSB and FEB. Shaddy, mom and pop training schools should beware, freelancers also. If the PSB isn't making their money, that is the problem. If you aren't causing trouble, there will be no problem, working on L/F will not mean deportation, it will mean a fine and request for you to get a valid working visa, they will be hitting the South of China quite soon.
a copy of your passport and residence permit is acceptable,i was told by the psb today

It depends on where you live. In Guangzhou, they used to allow b&w copies, then they wanted color copies, now they only want originals. I have seem them go to expat bars & restaurants all the time and block the doors until they checked the documents of every expat in the place. If they didn't have their original documents, they were taken to police HQ until someone could bring their documents as proof.
