I just returned from a few days in lovely Zibo, where I was denied a hotel room at a Home Inn. Luckily the Hanting next door was accommodating. I realize not all hotels/motels are allowed to house foreigners, but I thought Home Inn was beyond that. Apparently not. So, have you ever been denied lodging at Home Inn or any of the other Chinese chains?

It's strange, I thought that HI is the national model for hotels. They're all decent enough, so I don't understand why foreigners wouldn't be admitted nationwide.

Happened to me several times. It happened last week in Beijing too. Apparently, all those cheap hotels have a hard time getting a license that would allow them to host foreigners. Or maybe it would be too expensive for them to get one.
I've been told I couldn't come into my home, if that's the same. Covered in vomit and i'd soiled myself. Pfff, it was Friday, what did she expect?!
Yes, in Urumqi.
Went to another one near People Park and no problem.
That was lucky because if you have to be in Urumqi you want to be near that big park.
Something strange here. I had lots of fun in a lot of Home Inns in Guangzhou and while the Hotel was nothing to write home to mother about, the fun was...
depends on the hotel and the local government giving them the permit.
in smaller cities 7days inn would not let me stay but in bigger cities, have no problem.
Denied at Home Inn and 7 Days Inn in Hebei for being a foreigner. 7 Days in Jiangsu, no problem. Home Inn Kunming no problem.
