Q: Anyone else tired of watching British politicians bend over for China?

First Boris and George Osborne and now Cameron. Guys stop making it so obvious that you would do anything to get China to come your party. It is just embarrassing. He even joined Weibo, and told Chinese citizens to ask him anything - anyone got Weibo and can find out what sort of questions her has to answer? I would love to see that?

What's rather infuriating is that in Europe, not just GB, you get no one, and I say absolutely no fucking one, among politics and hardly anyone among experts of all kinds who actually has a real understanding of China, culturally, politically, and not mentionning trivial subjects like urbanism and such. Debates on the subject are always monkey jokes of Sofitel experts relating their meaningless experiences, even ambassies and consulates seem to really have no fucking clue. Hell, most of the users of this site probably know more.

If they did, they would act otherwise. Only the US probably has a clear mind about it, since they're tied together with China on top of the pit, better know each other.

DrMonkey:

Amen to that. When I read most articles about China, I roll my eyes and ask myself if the writers went out of the Sofitel.

Really do you believe that, are forgetting about that little thing called Hong Kong or how about Macau.

I'm sure the Portuguese and the British might just know a little more than the ham shanks.

Hong Kong and Macao are not PRC, no matter what they say, it's not. You can live in Hong Kong and still not have a clue of what's going on in China. Hell you can live in China and not have a clue of what's going on in China. Do you know how most of reporters for foreign TV do their jobs here ? They first scriptwrite their report, then ask their Chinese assistant to find the people and the scenery that corresponds to their storyboard. They shoot, edit, and make it like what they want it to be like for their audience, with just as little informative content as needed to comfort people in their limited vision. Then they get back to their hotel and read the China Daily. Do you think those people know shit about the social reality of China? Or the actual working conditions of Chinese that would need so much nuancing from what our countrymates usually assume? Or the reality of politics, economy, etc etc etc etc...

Well, having attended conferences and speeches of so called experts, I can just guarantee that any ESL teacher will tell you more in 5 minutes than those guys in hours.

Same with politics, they usually come visit China, get on a tour to see the perfect factories with perfect workers doing perfectly their jobs, telling how happy their life is, then have dinner with officials in the best restaurants and in the end get back to their country and keep telling to idiots how great China is, with all those perfect $300 workers that never complain (as opposed to said country lazy and demanding citizens).

I aint' forgiven English lack of principled behavior since they passed on buying Dixie cotton during the Civil War and then they flooded the market with their own cotton from one of their colonies.

I would never, ever, ever, breathe principled and English in the same sentence.

Its called business. The UK needs other options and money just isnt coming from Europe. China has money. Thats it.

If any other 'clear minded' individual thinks David Cameron is licking chinese arse, then why dont you send him a message on Weibo.

Most of the Tories have been bending over since their public schoolboy days at Eton.

if a british politician shows up in China, you can be sure they want something, and whatever they want, its going to be advantageous to britain, at the expense of China. what im tired of is british politicians trying to bend China into giving them concesions, what is it with western regimes thinking they can go into China and demand whatever they want?

Hulk:

Because we can?

We made China what she is today. We gave her an economy, an infrastructure, etc. The least she could do is allow us access to her market. Why is this an issue?

it's an issue because WICKED is trawling the forum for any mention of evil foreigners and saying "Foreigner bad, Chinaman good".... when you think about it, it's pretty wicked.
