Q: Anyone have a Google Nexus? How to use Google Play here?

I did see a recent question about google opps on a Chinese smartphone so I hope I'm not repeating anything (yeah too lazy to find/read it).

Basically I've got a lovely Nexus 7 which is full of google apps such as Play, which lets me download books/films etc. It seems to be blocked here however which is highly irritating! Anyone know of a way to use it?

The trick for me to get access to the full Play Store is to put a European sim in my phone (in this case a Samsung Galaxy) Be careful not to enable data traffic via mobile networks.

Then using Wifi, create a VPN connection to somewhere not in China, and then you can get all the nice apps. It may be an advantage to also clear the data for the Play app prior to doing this.

If you must have Google Play, you will need to "root" your phone and install another ROM in place of the stock one.  This isn't too difficult, but it may void your warranty.  But this isn't necessary if you simply want to install apps that are available in the Google Play Market.  These same apps are also available elsewhere.   There are many other alternative markets where you can download the files necessary to install almost all the programs that are in the Google Market.  Google is your friend.  Use it.  For more information about rooting your phone and access to some of the best modified ROMS, check out this site:  http://www.cyanogenmod.org/

Another option is to go to the Google Play website and download your applications/movies/etc... directly from there to your phone.  When I was in China this is how I did it and it didn't need a VPN to access.  However, it may need one now, I don't know.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
