Q: Anything the American education system could learn from the Chinese one?

For all its faults, do you think there's anything the American educational system could emulate within the Chinese system?

Yes being more active!! American schools can be some of the most not so active schools you will ever see. They like to put a strong emphasis on the word active in China in the American education system not so much...

this is actually a good question and i believe that there should be one majorchange to the american school system more so the principle behind it. it should be a privilege not a right. but still be free and extended to all students/parents who follow the rules, work hard, and take education seriously. the idea that you cant kick students out of the school system is taking it's toll on inner city schools. gangs,  thugs and bullies are making difficult for regular students to go to school and learn. if you changed the principle and made school a privilege parents would take it more seriously and send their kids to learn, many parents see the school system as a baby sitter.

also i would like to put an end to teacher's unions, they mainly serve to protect bad lazy teachers.

I agree, especially when it comes to univeristy. However, to say so out loud is to invite being called "elitist."  I really think that not eveyone is cut out for university life, and that many people would be happier and better remunerated if they got good vocational training.

One of my friends is a Master Plummer and he does quite well.

MrTibbles:

Education should be a right.  If it's a privelage, then only those with money will have the right to an education, and that's called a caste system.  I do see what you're getting at.  How about we require parents to get a license before having children?  That would solve all the problems.  Hey, if god wants you to have kids, he'll let you pass the requirements to have one.

crimochina:

mr. tibbs i firmly agree with the lic to have children but we all know the ignorant and those unfit to be parents or those who cant even afford to take care of their children reproduce faster than anyone else. fixing that will get real ugly. safer to address the schooling. or set up separate schools for students/ parents who take education seriously. make it purely based on behavior and effort
