Q: Are Chinese girls getting thicker?

I seem to come across increasingly more young ladies I would classify as having an "average" body frame by European standards, which is a good thing compared to the sacks of bones I am used to seeing here.

yeah, all chinese being skinny is just a left-over stereotype from the days when China lacked adequate nutrition. Today most chinese have a substantial frame and a fair percentage of them are overweight. I'm talking about the ones born from like the 80's, 90's and later. The overweight trend is due to 3 things I think. 1. Han are thick bodied, stocky people, just like Manchu & Mongol. 2. They have adopted the junk-food diet as a side effect of adopting the 'Western' lifestyle. So you see kids, and even adults stuffing their faces with those little fake cake things, KFC, McDonalds. 3. Many have embraced the sedentary lifestyle. These three factors has led to plenty of beached ChinaWhales~

Shining_brow:

I'll just add something to #3 - due to the pressures imposed by Gaokao, most kids don't get out and run around or do much exercise, so they get into the habit of doing that - and thus, not exercising to keep fit.

Also, we are used to gyms - but they're a very new thing here - something for taking selfies at (they open at 10am... what more needs to be said?)

And then, of course, there are the very different priorities in life. We prefer comfort, freedom, enjoyment, friendships, going out and doing things... whereas most Chinese only want money. Time spent on improving your health and getting fitter is time taken away from getting more money!

I can see food being one of the biggest culprits.

exercise is mentioned but no amount of exercise will help you get rid of Pizza Hut, macdonalds, KFC and Starbucks fat.

i see more and more young people drinking , beer , wine etc etc , then sitting in front of their device till all hours of the night watching ,voices, chatting and posting dumb questions in places like this

and more money they have the more they eat , and less healthy choices

it's quite interesting

I expect obesity will rise sharply. There is an environmentally activated starvation gene that programs the body to store fat. People experiencing hunger pass it on to the next generation, but it isn't active for themselves. They can eat and eat, and will gain no weight.

If a pregnant mom goes hungry, the gene will go haywire. The foetus will be programmed in utero to prepare for a world where nutrition is scarce, only to be born into Chinese consumer society. they might as well be injecting all that hot pot oil directly into their subdermal tissue.

I'm not referring to the hunger during Mao era; the people who went hungry then, mostly died. I'm talking about a tendency for Chinese moms to go on extreme diets, to keep the baby small. That's why a lot of skinny MILFs are bottle-feeding The Blob.
