I'm wondering if this is really an isolated occurence. Two of the very small local restaurants I always go to have now been closed since the 14th of January as the owners went back to their province for Spring Festival.
Anyone else still see stuff closed, or is this really rare?
It would really depend on where the owners and or most of the workers' families reside. If within your city or town, they will most probably should be open by now, if far away could be as much as a month.
Another important point that bears in this is that for Western minds, New Lunar Year is the Eve celebration and the New Year Day, just like back home. But to Chinese and many other Asian countries, the celebration takes almost one month, starting almost 2 weeks prior with each day doing something different of the many preparations required, then the actual New Year, and for two weeks after, or until Lantern Festival, also each day is meant for doing something especial. So, it is normal for then to be closed until after Lantern Festival.
Yep. Most of my favorite locally owned resturants were closed for roughly two weeks. I went by one place yesterday (named "Short guy noodles") and he had reopened. They serve the best Mifen in town!
Spring Festival is over and we just passed the Lantern Festival. I find it surprising that the small local restaurants have been closed for so long. Well, they could have been celebrating both and the Lantern Festival was only a couple of days ago. I haven't seen this happening where I'm at it seems that all the stores are open for business now.
