Q: Are there any drive-thrus in China?

In Australia, we have drive-thru McDonalds, KFCs, restaurants, laundries, banks, bottle shops, supermarkets and many other such places. However, I can't recall seeing any such places in China.

Do they exist?

I doubt a Chinese driver could actually steer him or herself through one of those fast food drive thru's. And to get close enough to hand the money over? Or wanting to barter the price?

Seems one of the sensible things in China - NOT to have drive thru's which is an affirmation by those in power that the locals can't drive!

i have seen an advertisement on a television inside macdonalds that shows a drive thru and a chinese family getting food, somewhere in china, but i have never seen one in reality,

car commercials here show you driving fast in moutains and valleys with no one around, cant imagine driving a car anywhere 15 minutes with out seeing another car in china.

in alaska i could drive 3 hours with out seeing another car.

I saw one in Tianjin 6 months ago....McDonald's.  Funny it went right through the building almost like underground parking.

Before this in 3 years I never saw one.

They can't get it right at the counter and drive-thrus are worse. The place would probably get rid of the garbage by giving it to drive-thru customers.

Back in the 70's we could just pull up to the bottle shop and the attendant would bring open a nice cold cracked open beer to our car. Those were the days!

But no, never seen a drive-thru here. There is good delivery service from almost any restaurant where I am at, so maybe they only actually GO to the restaurant if they want to eat there. Otherwise, it's delivery.

Sorry, sheltered American here, but what's a bottle shop?  Aussie beer joint/pit stop?

It would be sheer carnage. Can you imagine someone trying to overtake the car in front to get to the counter first? Jeez, the thought of it doesn't bear thinking about.

I've seen one in China....I believe it was a Mcdonalds drive thru. It surprised me the first time I saw it. I don't own a car here so I wouldn't be able to use it anyways. Plus, it's super far away from where I stay.

I've only seen it at one KFC and one mcdonald's around here. Luckily my girlfriend has only been driving me there later at night. During the day, it would probably take forever to place and order and then pick it up

Some McDonalds in Foshan and the Panyu District of Guangzhou have drive-thrus.  Never seen any other drive-thrus besides McD's, though.

It must have happened at least once in this country that some dude has plowed his motorized vehicle through a McDonalds, if not on purpose then by accident.

Imagine where the packing would go. The streets or garbage cans?

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
