Q: Can a teacher older than 65 get a work permit under special circumstances

I have 4 years experience teaching English, VCE Accounting and Business in China plus 4 years in Australia teaching Economics and Business. I would like to get another job in China but schools cannot get a work permit for me. Is there any way this problem can be solved?

The work permit is denied because once you are 65 years of age, you can not be enrolled in the school health insurance.  And with no health insurance, no work.

I do know of a way around it, but two things will need to happen :

1.- The school will have to need or want you real bad, and be willing to do a bit more work in securing the work permit with the right "guangxi".

2.- You will have to get yourself some private health insurance with an overseas insurance agency that will pay claims in China.  It will be expensive, and you will have to pay for it.

I do know an 83 years old Ex-Pat teaching at a local university a class on movies and TV productions, and this is how he got his work permit.

Hi Ron, sorry buddy, no can do. There has been some cases in the past where Expats were allowed to work until about 68 if they were in administration or boss positions but unfortunately these days we are seeing the Chinese government up hold their local laws. We lost two really experienced legal professionals this year. For two years, it was never a problem but this year has been somewhat different story

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
