Q: In cases of divorce in China, what usually happens to the child?

Do they go with one parent or the other? Joint custody? Is the child stigmatized?

If the divorce is between two Chinese nationals, then, from what I hear, in most situations, it is the mother that obtains custody of the child if the child is less than two years old. Children between the ages and three and nine are generally given to the mother, unless the mother leads a questionable lifestyle. In the case of a child over 10 years old, the wishes of the child are taken into account by the court before a final determination is made..  This is only what I have been told by my Chinese friends.  If the divorce is between a Chinese national and a foreign parent, then I have been told that in most cases custody is given to the parent who is a Chinese national.  Is the child stigmatized -- by whom and for what reason?

I've seen a few divorces and in every case where the child was a boy, he went with the father.  the one girl child i saw went with the mother.  I'll let you decide what that means.   of course the fathers had more guanxi.

That all depends. It could be joint custody or sole custody or if either parent is not fit to take care of the child the child usually goes to the more competent grand parent.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
