It just couldn't be any better than this.

All my neighbors smile and say hello.

My rent is $600, instead of $1300.

Bought 3 lbs of coffee beans today for $15 instead of $45

My internet is $100/yr instead of $ 400

My extravagant food bill is $600/mo, as opposed to a frugal $600/mo.

My travel expenses are minimal ($30/mo. – 2 e-bike parking)… as opposed to $6-10,000

A beer is $0.8 instead of $2.5+

My wife seldom tells me what to do…change clothes, I’m washing. Quit smoking!!!

Can never get enough mangoes, dragon fruit and bananas, peanuts and prawns…. Cheap cheap cheap.

Parking police only ask for $1 instead of $20

I make more money than a Chinese airline pilot….. and I haven’t been to work for 4 years.

All my neighbors smile and say hello.

'You never know, what future might bring.....!'angel

P.S.

I think 'wu-mao' must always come from some obscure country as countries in S. America, Trinidad or Tobago, Galapagos and similar, so nobody can challenge their authenticity. In real, posters are Chinese. IMO, of course.

- streets are safe at night
- pretty, easy women
- easy to save money
- plenty of cheap goods
- you rank among the most functional, competent people around

Satan could probably still do worse.

I would think north Korea, some African countries and possibly some South American countries would be worse. A lot of things here are not good but there is,

1. reasonable food if you take the time to find it,

2. You can find anything on the internet if you know what you are doing, the big problem with the internet is the unreliable speeds,

3. Any language is strange if you don't know it, but is Chinese really any stranger than other Asian languages,

4. Polluted environment I will agree with,

5. The staring is usually just curiosity but if it is done too intensely I just stare them down. It usually works,

6. Racism here is just ignorance due to being closed off and a really poor education system,

7. Overpriced is just part of their economy,

8. Scams you do have to be aware of but it is not unique to China,

9. Synthetic food stuff no excuses for that.

the big question is why are you here. Your business idea seems not to have played out and you seem to hate everything and everyone connected to this country, so why are you still here?

but suffering daily here Im seeing all the mistakes I made in the past. I promised to survive an entire year in china as a punishment for my bad decisions.

If it's hell on earth, maybe you should either learn to deal with it (I had to), or go back home (which I did)?

I loved China. You have more personal freedom than in the United States. Pretty much everything China is guilty of, the U.S. is as well. We just have a far, far better standard of living here in the states.

The only thing I didn't like was that I kept attracting one nutjob after another. I would go back there in a heartbeat if I could get paid the same as I do here, and if there were no pollution (which includes bad food).

1. Disgusting food? Delicious food! And cheap.

2. Censored internet? Get a VPN retard.

3. Strange language? Learn it! People from different countries speak different languages....Retard!

4. Polluted environment? Sometimes. Not so bad where I am.

5. The staring... Diddums. Did a man look at you? Did it hurt? Are you okay?

6. Racism. Yes, it's terrible. I get paid four times as much as everybody else - not really fair.

7. Scams to foreigners? There's a sucker born every minute. Don't be a sucker.

8. Synthetic meat, vegetables, fruit? What the hell are you talking about? The produce at my local market is amazing, fresh and cheap.

9. Etc? Time for you to go home crybaby. No one cares.

Heaven or Hell? The April 2015 annual report on happy countries from UN serves as a reasonable guideline.  In this report, out of 106 countries, Switzerland ranked #1, Peru 58, China 84. You can download the pdf file. http://worldhappiness.report/

Long time reader, first time posterwink.  Just can't take this guy.... he trolled me out of casual reading.

Dude, lighten up. Hell on Earth? C'mon. You live in Shanghai (right?)! You can find anything here! In an attempt to help....

SmartShanghai is your friend. Use it.  Here's a link to a quick search for "Organic"

http://www.smartshanghai.com/listings/all/?tag=organic&page=2

There's 33 results! Including several grocery stores. Even some that deliver.

There's a great, Shanghainese restaurant called Jianguo 328 (search SmartShanghai). It's clean, no MSG, high quality everything. Book a table (it's very popular and cheap) and go try it before you bash one of the greatest food cultures of all time.

This language is like Othello, a minute to learn, a lifetime to master. Give it a go. Survival Chinese is simple, the grammar is very straightforward.

Overpriced stuff? Ya if you shop in People's Square like a N00B.

And one more thing...

According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime:

Murder rate for China 2013: 0.8 (per 100,000 ppl)

Murder rate for Peru 2013: 6.7

So just remember, no matter how much you hate China, we're all 8 times more likely to get shot in the F*****G face in Peru.

earthizen:

You want a relatively quick (e.g. murder) or a slow and agonizing one (e.g. cancer) from air, water, soil pollution? smiley

From WHO, 2002. You may be able to find a more recent one. Most would agree that air pollution in china had gone a lot worse since 2002. Also, this was air pollution only, water and soil pollution, gutter oil, fake rice (plastic mix), melamine milk, WWII frozen meat......etc. weren't included.

No, China has many negative aspects but so far the pros outweigh the cons otherwise I wouldn't be here anymore.

Many of the cons you cite only exist in tier-1 cities. The overpriced real estate, the worse-than-bad air pollution, the crowds, the migrant workers' stares, the scams for foreigners, ... I live in tier-2 and I encounter none of this.

Pros:

-I earn big while doing little (consulting, HR, commissions)

-I pay 6000 rambos for 280sqm on 37th floor in a brand new CBD.

-No stares here since there are very few migrants and locals are used to laowais.

-Blue skies are the norm here and outside most tier-1 cities.

-Streets are safe even at night, there is no crime, only hellorassment, sometimes.

-Lot of greenery in tier-2 cities, large parks, there is a lake next to my home.

-Fewer people as well, huge crowds are typical of tier-1 cities because of tourism.

-Stuff is cheap, handmade quality exists if you know where to look for it.

-Buy anything on the internet, super fast delivery and free installation.

-Food is great, well Shanghai food sucks but Sichuan spice or Dim Sum is yammy.

Cons:

-Censored internet, VPN will solve that for 8 rambos per month.

-Must boil tap water or buy bottled water.

-Hellorassment.
