Q: Did 'Kung Fu Panda' piss people off here?

I wasn't around when it came out, but seeing as how touchy Chinese are when we say anything about their country...

It was actually a big hit in China. The only thing that pissed them off majorly was the fact that Chinese producers/directors/studios cannot make movies that can reach out to the people.

They loved it more than life itself, and one of them kung fu panda movies ended up being a top grosser. Same goes for Mulan. My students have tons of merchandise with the Panda and Mulan on it. Someone told me that having big American blockbusters about China give the Chinese face, though I'm not sure most of them would take it that far.

It's only Asians born and living in anglo countries who find it to be a terribly offensive misrepresentation of their culture.

Yes, they love KungFu Panda. All the kids have seen it and it is highly merchandised.
