Dear ESL friends
Hampson English is every where in China, for many of us that have been here for years know their "police crackdown history" and all the poor ESL guys that have been used as bait to help collect money.
So to all new ESL teachers and ones that didn't know: Do NOT accept a Part time job. They are checked on by police 3 to 4 times every 6 months, mostly on Saturdays.
The head office in Beijing has probably already called a lot of you because you have your resume on this site, yes they called 3 of us too.
Only the Beijing office can hire full time teachers legally. NEVER trust another city, they will get you a Z visa (RP) from Beijing, not the city you are really in, So that makes you illegal and you could or will be blacklisted.
Guys please note, part time jobs are not as safe as they were last year. Hampson is always A. on the crackdown list. Please don't risk it.
I feel you guys can understand why I wish not to give out my member ID.

Some posters are so helpful I wish there was a way to exchange points to send someone a beer or a coupon for beer.
What happened to FT found by PSB, working at another School part-time?
I have clause in the present Contract, 'I can work at other Schools, under condition I'm not late for classes at my prime job'.
ironman510:
Technically you're only suppose to work at the company that the visa is registered to by PSB law. I've heard rumors , now I don't know if this is true that Foreigners from government's like the US, Canada, British, Australia and other countries like this will have no problem if caught by the PSB, married folks get off more easily so I was told, who knows.. again that was just a rumor..
icnif77:
I understand, by Chinese Law 'part-time job' is illegal. Some Contracts state, FT can only work at RP sponsor School. I always ask for 'leeway' on the Contract on my 'free time', so usually I get reply right away from School, either 'no, you can't' or 'yes, but around schedule at RP sponsor' as in my last Contract.
I've never been 'caught' working 'part-time', which I always do, if there's possibility.
In Fuk. my 'part-time' job is hanging online some 10h a day.
mike168229:
Just a rumour I'm afraid. I know of at least two Americans who have been asked to go home after being caught out.
icnif77:
@mike: 'caught moonlighting', or 'working with wrong visa'?
- FT has RP, and also works at the different School, than RP sponsor;
or
- FT works with wrong visa (F, L).
mike168229:
@icinif, both illegally. I see where you are going though, have to say that 'moonlighting' is also a breach of your RP and can get you thrown out.
icnif77:
But my present Contract state:
'Party B agrees that during the Contract he/she will not accept employment at any other School, which will disrupt the regular teaching work'.
I understand, I can 'moonlight' under condition I'm not late (miss) at my prime job classes!
Probably I'm illegal if I 'moonlight', however in Court we would have lengthy discussion about that clause. Honest judge should declare Contract as 'not valid', because it contradicts with Chinese Law.
I have new Contract:
'Without Party A's consent Party B shall not render service elsewhere or hold concurrently post unrelated to the work agreed on with party A.'
In other words, I must ask for permission of RP sponsor to 'moonlight'!

The PSB would not be too concerned because it is a contract issue. When they check teachers they want to be sure you are not working on the wrong visa.
ironman510:
Teachers get in trouble if they get caught working for a school that doesn't have a license to hire them.
RP holders: Get off with warning 50%), fined (90%), deported(30%)or blacklisted(70%)
.
RP holders married to Chinese: Get off with a warning and get a PSB record (90%)
L,M,F visa holders: Fined (99%), Deported(60%), Jailed(40%), Warned and let go:(50%), blacklisted (99%).
Q or S visa: Blacklisted:70%, Deported: 10%, Jailed: 5%, Fined: (99%)
D visa: The heaven of power: Freedom for all jobs.
WEB International in Shenzhen should be " B." on PSB crackdown list.
Apparently NDI and New Channel are getting a hard time too.
mike168229:
They are training centres. In Hebei they are cracking down, the whole province. I have heard from people in a few different cities being visited by the local fuzz. Deportations I have only heard from Shijiazhuang though.

I've heard some horror stories about EF, Hampsons and New Horizon. Mostly it's about lousy admin. I'm not sure if they are just isolated cases but I'd be careful if I were to join them.
All of these trashy training centers should be shut down anyway...
They usually lie to their customers, teachers and are run by extremely greedy businessmen.
The only reason why these schools exist is a need for better education. If the government put as much energy into fixing the educational system as it did on crackdowns then these schools wouldn't even be there!
But of course that takes logic to figure out... and I guess some would stay open due to the Chinese obsesses with face... "My kid studies in a training center cause he is super smart and we are super rich!"
