I was talking with a hong kong dude over the holliday. he was talking about mainland Chinese and the general opinon hong kongers have of them, wich is that of a swarm of locusts discending upon the land. 0 manners, going around spitting pissing in public areas, eating noodles in subways. and women swarming hospitals to pop out their babys. basicly they have the same disdain for mainalnders as mainlanders have of counntry folk and minoreties
Chinese are super proud of getting Hong Kong back from the evil imperialists. but if anything. since 1997 HK people see themselvs less and less as Chinese and more and more as Hong Kongese.
In general I will say no, the general public is not aware of it. I do visit Hong Kong frequently, and do talk to a few from there. And their opinion is not too favorable about mainlanders. But to me, most mainlanders have no idea of how those living in Hong Kong feel about them at all. Some may, but not the majority

I am not saying you are wrong ( Too many people are saying that of everyone here recently!). My experience is that my girlfriend does not like Hong Kong people because of what they think about Mainlanders. Chicken and the egg kinda thing?
Oh yes, mainlanders are WELL aware of it. That's why that so-called "professor" made those remarks the other week. Childish swipe back.
And this week the story was printed in the Mainland about the "swarm of locusts" advertisement. My wife has even said there's bad blood between the two as well.
From personal experience, my friends from Hong Kong would rather be independent. Tells you enough.
The Hong Kong people I know are rather arrogant and snobish. The few I actually like are from Shanghai.
