I mean, we already know about the driving and queue forming here. It seems the less orderly the better. But I've noticing something more specific for a while now.
At my previous gym in China, none of the free weights were ever in their right place. Dumb bells and plate weights just scattered everywhere randomly. Half the workout time was spent hunting what I needed, sometimes in vain.
Then about a month ago a new gym opened, and I joined, as my membership at the old gym had just expired. All new equipment, thoughtfully laid out, with free weights organized nicely! Yes! Didn't even last a week....the dumb bells were all jumbled up, plate weights the same, some even scattered throughout the gym. I even took the trouble to sort most of it one time....next day, back the way it was. WTF? This never happened at any gym I was ever a member of in the US..........
Any other chaos embracing stories you'd like to share?
I wouldn't call it chaos as you write but I would venture to say that it is an ingrained respect of lack of public spaces. I live in a nice complex for example. The individual apartments are well maintained. The stairwells, the gardens, the footpaths are treated like extensions of a garbage dump, and the people are rather well-educated. Redo your apartment? Just throw the garbage out the window...drop the old toilet on the rose bed, etc., etc. It is just so incredible.
I too belong to a gym and I can tell you worse things than barbell issues...I agree, barbells all over, scattered, etc., etc., everything that you write ... but even one thing worse ... the musclebuilder dudes treat the shower floor as if it were a urinal ... I mean why go to the WC when you are taking a shower ... just do it right there ..
In my opinion, it's just a (serious) lack of (proper training and) respect for public space. It is one thing that I truly abhor.
That sucks dude. ... . I was thinking about joining a gym here. I hope it doesn't turn out that way. I have a lifetime membership at my spa in America. Have you heard of the Renaissance European Day Spa before?
Hell yes!! It's all about being as loud as possible here! In addition, showing a lack of manners and respect towards others and simply ignoring public and personal space. Also, eating loudly with the mouth open, smoking in public places..cough cough..making stupid and arrogant comments, stupid laughing when a foreign person is speaking their 1st language, disrespectful pointing, etc. etc. which just gets nauseating.
Oh yea, the dumbbell rack a mixed up mess, people watching you do your sets. I mean, staring. Leave the weights wherever they are when they're finished. Sitting on a bench press bench chatting on the phone. It goes on and on. I bring my Sansa and tune everything out. Ahhh just venting.
I'm too scared to go into the shower. haha no seriously
Sorry I can't think of other examples.

Yeah, I get the stares when I'm doing sets....especially when it's chest/back day. They love to "waaa" and "ohhh" when I max out on the bench press (which ain't much, a paltry 100kg yesterday, lol). And since it's a new gym, they're always taking potential new members on a tour. Guess who's the number one tour attraction? (I guess it's between me and the pole dancing class, lol)
Luckily our showers have privacy dividers and curtains. But, it's not like I've got anything to be embarrassed about anyways...
