Q: Do you carry your passport everyday?

In China people are required to be able to produce ID on request. Do you carry your passport on you when you go out?

Usually I do carry my passport when outside, but don't take it with me when I go out for a walk, go to the gym or some other place I don't carry my handbag to.

Perhaps you look like the criminal, illegal immigrant druggie type to them...how should we know...if we can't tell, how could they possibly tell without checking the Interpol database.

Nope. Too afraid of getting it lost. Getting beat by Mike Tyson with a baseball bat would be less painful than going to Shanghai to the embassy, then going back, then going to the PSB and all that jazz.

What I did is to photograph the front page of my passport and Residence Permit to my phone and my mini IPad (which I carry with me a lot).  I have never had a cop ask me on the street to ask me for ID. So why risk losing it?
