I am home for the summer, and I have had a few (do it) or get off the pot moments. I think it is the western food, or maybe it is the lack of microbes to give me the runs. But seriously, is it harder (no pun intended) for you to do you business when you go home after being in China for a awhile?

In general, travelling long distances can often lead to constipation, as you're out of your normal routine, moving around and eating irregularly. There are some types of food which your stomach may have difficulty digesting as it probably isn't used to it anymore. Dairy products are often the main culprit.
Yogurt. Have a cup of yogurt a day. I had the same problem and that always worked.
As long as I stick to my morning coffee routine, everything comes out normally.....
After a long distance flight I always struggle to go for a few days.
I usually manage to break the barrier after about three days in an intense white knuckle session.
I read somewhere about the pressure having an effect on a persons intestines causing a contraction. Not sure how accurate this is though.
Now I take on as much orange juice as possible during an after the flight and this has helped immensely.
It's changing from rice to potatoes. Potatoes are a bit more difficult to errm pass through if you're not used to it. It's not just us, when locals go away to study they have real problems adapting to the change in diet and get very blocked up.
Coke or coffee or any of those energy drinks will help as they are diuretics.
Or just think about all the times that you were taken advantage of in China
, that will give you the Sh@ts
I drink yogurt mixed with water during the day. Sometimes I add sesame seeds for better digestion.
I get constipated only in China, I'm addicted to the little egg breads with almonds on them.
Yes. My advice would be to get some kind of magnesium powder. Take enough to help you go. Or as someone above said, plenty of orange juice works, because a high enough level of vitamin C will also help you go. Magnesium and vitamin C are both good for that, and are natural to your body. You can adjust how much you need.
No. I have been home for two weeks now and my digestive system is happier than ever. Nothing constipates me as rice rice and sticky rice.
In China I need to eat a lot of fruits to be able to get value from the western toilet in my apartment.
There is not enough fiber in the Guangdong diet.
