Q: Do you peel the skin off tomatoes before eating them?

Just wondering if this is going too far - I've just heard so many Chinese saying 'don't forget to wash this, don't eat this at all, don't...' I guess I've grown paranoid of what I eat here.

No, just wash them, this will rid the skin of dirt, any contaminants like pesticides, poluted water will leech into the flesh of the fruit. yum

In China, you don't worry about it....between pesticides, pollution, non-drinkable tap water, etc.....peeling or not your tomatoes are the least of your problems.

Just wash them. They are just as good or bad as anything else you eat. Relax and enjoy the food. Take basic precautions but dont be paranoid otherwise you miss out on one of the great joys of living here.

Are you making a tomato paste for a bolognaise or butter chicken? If so, yes, peel them. If not, peeling them won't save you when you're run over anyway.... so don't bother
