Q: Do you prefer south or north China?

Yeah I know this is a pretty broad, vague question but what the hell. Covering food, landscape, weather, people...which do you prefer? I've lived in both and prefer the south personally.

Only headed north a couple of times. Found it chilly. Coming from England the weather down here in Guangxi is a very welcome change. Originally wanted to live in Beijing though; there's snowboarding to the east and skydiving to the west. Wasn't meant to be though, so I make do with.........erm.....going for nice walks.

There is only one China and it is Middle!

Why not east or west China?  It's a pretty large country...  The NW is MUCH different than the NE, then there is all the coastal areas and that big ole Gobi desert thing in the north...

I think it would be better to say "which region".

Anyway, what ever part Shanghai is in.

The South- despite being in Beijing! I find the people take themselves less seriously, are less proud and loud, and are generally more easy going. The food isn't as doused in oil and salt as it is the north, and then there's the weather....I've lived in the South so I can compare, though opportunities and cool events keep me in Beijing. Of course it varies depending on where you go but the South in my experience is a lot cleaner too.

Live in North China whenever I am there and have traveled a bit in the South. I enjoy my time in the North but after spending a winter there will avoid that time of year as the cold drives me indoors so much. I guess it is not a matter of where I prefer rather than where I am used to and how circumstance of my partners home town and family causes me to stay in the North. I think that all things being equal and the same family, house situation I would prefer the milder weather of the South. Probably Xiamen of the places I have been.

Screw the cold...I'm staying in Xiamen forever (but my GF is from Dongbei, which is a bonus smiley). Fujian girls / families are very materialistic...

maggiegirly:

My husband and I just had a nice vacation in Xiamen before Chinese new year and we really enjoyed our time there.Xiamen's one of our favorite place in China,Like Guangzhou where we are living right now.

Southern China. I'm from Indiana in the USA. Usually spend October to early-May dressed in extra-layers. Now, my office is in HK, and I do most of my stuff in the south or around Shanghai. I couldn't be happier. I hate cold weather, snow, and frozen toes!! YAY Hong Kong!

South for sure ,No doubt.

The damn cold weather drives me crazy in the north.

That's why I'm in Guangzhou.

i like the opportunities and warm weather in the south, but i like cool winters in the north,so maybe south is better for living while the north is better for vacations in summer and winter.

PS:i think people in the northeast are much more friendly than those in the south.

LAR:

"The North is better for vacations is the summer and winter." Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha The Northeast is FREEZING NOW you R*****!!!!!! :(

For mandarin speaking guys, south is a hell. Personally I prefer Yunnan province to everywhere else in China.
