The website's buzzing with stories about foreign teachers with criminal records who easily found jobs teaching children in China because there are no background checks here. Do you think this will prompt a crackdown or at least a more thorough background check?

What? I hope he wasn't deported. The death sentence is what he needs, if truly guilty. Maybe a few years of torture in a Chinese dungeon, and then executed in front of the country on national television.
CARLGODWIN1983:
This.
Sod human rights etc, and sod the liberals saying the death penalty has no place in today's society. I want to ask the Chinese government if they would execute a few more British criminals who have done such dispicable things.
Hulk:
I see four pedophiles really took offense to this post. I hope you're found out and executed along with him.
Traveler:
I was one of the four that downvoted you on this Hulk, because it is a totally irresponsible thing to say, and far more so before you edited the answer. Are you accusing me, and others, of being pedophiles simply because we disagree with you?
You're quick to dish out abuse to others, but even quicker to complain when fire is returned.
JohnathonSteel:
I agree about national televison, Hulk. Also, I think footage of his crying family should be shown.

i used to have 500 employees and i checked everyone of them on the internet, i knew if they made harrassing phone calls, credit report, garnishments, divorces, driving and criminal history, all for less than 20 dollars and some information was free, this is just lazy incompetence on the part of china.
when my drivers crossed the border to canada if they were behind on child support they would not allow them to cross and i had to send a driver to pick up the truck. hell , when i crossed they knew i had 2 passports and tried to speak french to me. i hate speaking french.
ambivalentmace:
intellius.com , some items free others you have to pay, need some info like former addresses , birthdays , known country or state of residence.
found 2 teachers at my school last year had never finished college and submitted fake degrees.
Hulk:
INTELLIUS is horribly incorrect. You might've hurt a few people unintentionally. Those background checks aren't actually background checks for the most part... they're just data-mined from the internet, and based on forms people fill out online. Intellius also says I have an email address which I don't.
ambivalentmace:
the pay site gave me criminal history and even political donations if the amount was over 200 dollars, many other sites available, checked my ancestors using census records and the social security death records from the government.
nevermind:
WHy would they speak French to you? Canadian Customs will speak whatever language you request, it's the law.
ambivalentmace:
because i gave them my american passport , but served in the french foreign legion and have a french passport, the canadian official was saying in his own sarcastic way, we know who you really are. seems france and britain exchange intelligence and then britains gives it to canada, new zealand and australia, but america does not know about the french passport or they never ask about it.
I think it is laziness on the part of the employing school. Our school requires a National Police Clearance and a Working With Children clearance.
The unseen problem occurs when you have committed an offence here but not been charged or jailed. You are not required to submit a National Chinese Police clearance because I doubt one exists.
ambivalentmace:
yes in america you can order a criminal background check for 25 dollars plus postage online from pennsylvania and florida even if you never lived there, im sure other states offer the same thing and other countries, unless some countries value privacy more than american standards that im not aware of on the internet.
Sorry, but what scandal? People on this website constitute a scandal?
Apparently some British guy got identified on suspicion of possessing child porn in Britain 11 years ago. He hasn't been found guilty yet, but all the nut jobs are calling for execution of all illegal foreigners, or some such rubbish.
I have always been suspect of people that risk work illegally so they can be near kids, and hopefully the Chinese government will start taking it seriously now.
Hulk:
They need to take it more seriously. They also need to take the sexual abuse perpetrated by their own countrymen more seriously.
Surveillance cameras should be installed in every classroom + Chinese educational authorities should obtain info on each & every foreign teacher working in China from their respective embassies.
If they do not they derelict in their duty. What I see on this site is a lot people teaching English that can not read or right it . Franck3
You must not be teaching anywhere because they've already been starting to do this. Well, at least at one of the schools I'm at. Since that incident happened they've been more thorough on the background checks.
This happened in Korea, and was one of the reasons I left. No, not because I'm a kiddie fiddler, but because getting an FBI background check every year is too much hassle if you actually live abroad.
-Since China barely has rule of law for themselves, I don't really see the Chinese making more legislation. That said, I do wish some of the worst of the worst didn't run away to China.

It looks like the police cancelled his visa when they found out. It's a pity they didn't find out before they let him loose.
Twice when I have done partnership programs in China, I have had to do police checks in Australia. Both times was working with Australian partner schools.
I think this is at least a start, and hopefully other partners schools in other countries will insist on these checks in the future. It is doubtful the Chinese schools will do them, even if it is law.
