I am just wondering as to whether the ones made for the Chinese market are very different from those of other countries. Is the quality and features the same and other aspects of the phone.
Thanks
I'm 'hoping' for one for my birthday / Christmas, from what I've read so long as you can be reasonably sure it's genuine then they are the same, but they do appear to be more expensive in China than the UK, cannot for the life of me figure out why though.
crimochina:
seriously , you can't figure out why? your govt marks up any foreign brand product even way beyond the 22% (or whatever tariffs) . an additional note. they claim taiwenese products as chinese products in order to gloat, but they are given the foreign product treatment. oh the irony.
Hugh.G.Rection:
'My' government?
You really are pathetic, you are almost certainly the only person on this site, who even PRETENDS to believe that crap. Go speak to philbravery, (he actually defended you on FB), he checked me out on FB and we have had chats on FB too.
Or is it just, as I suspect, that you are too scared to admit you were wrong as you fear losing face more than those Chinese you accuse of the same failing. Hypocrisy at work, again.
Please, please, just one caveat if you do purchase one -- to the best of your ability, please make sure that it is not a fake.
If you don't mind not having the Google Play store, go right ahead.
Excuse me being backwards; what applications does the google play store have? I basically want to use it for language applications, and as I am a writer I constantly have to read long documents even on the go where I can't always be having my heavy laptop. So I am more interested in the size for my sight, language applications, hopefully it has adobe reader and a radio....
Would buying it at a Samsung store guarantee me the quality?
MrTibbles:
You can download Adobe Reader..... From Google Play.
In China, Samsung has a deal with some app store that caters to the Chinese mainland market. There is no English option for the store, so if you can read Chinese, you'll be fine. If not, well, you're kind of out of luck. You can find the googleplay.apk online, but as far as I know it won't run on a Chinese Galaxy S3 unless you root it.
I'd get some more opnions, but a friend of mine just got one here in China and it's legit. Buy from China Mobile or a large mart (Media Markt) but stay away from street vendors and the "cheap electronics markets". There's a reason why the items you buy there are 1000rmb less than other places. They're either stolen or fake.
crimochina:
basically you will have to add apps from the internet googleplay.com (i'm guessing the address) but chinese android phones do not include the google play app. it is androids version of apple app store.
yeah, I have my eye on that phablet also. But as I am in Guangdong I am planning to pop over to HK and buy it there,,,, from the real Samsung store in Harbour City.... No reason to pay a middle-man...
I've basically only read good reviews, and I have always been very satisfied with all the Samsung products I've owned or used. It's sorta funny that people criticise it for being an overly large phone,,,, truth is it's just a perfect size potable computer, that is smart enough to make phone calls too ! I would buy iPad Mini if it made calls !!
Sidi:
I wish i could go to Hong Kong :( I can't afford to buy an expensive gadget only to realise later that it is a manufactured used product etc, or stolen... I want that phone.
diverdude1:
I hear you. I know a lot of rich people in SZ and anytime they buy something nice, they go over to HK. Well, a lot of them have homes in HK & SZ. but anyway, they ALL say the same thing to me.. that if I intend to buy sth nice, go to HK. I think a large part of it is the Snob Factor, but they also are leery of getting burned in the Mainland. side note: I bought a medium-expensive mobile from a top-rated taobao merchant and they sent me what I call 'seconds' or 'shop-worn'. u know the ol' advice... Careful be !
Sidi:
Ok I am convinced to buy in Honk Kong, don't know how I will afford it but yeah. Do you know how much the note 2 is in Hong Kong and the location of the real Samsung shop...thanks
diverdude1:
http://www.harbourcity.com.hk/?id=3975 depends on memory capacity and whether u go for LTE config. I plan to go all out on the 64 gb LTE model. with a nice case and dock,,, plan to drop 7 large minimum. * I never meant to say that I didn't trust hi-end retailers in China... Suning, Jusco, Broadway... I think their product/service is legitimate.
It's all the same. Although some of the companies that were making apple products did use a toxic chemical to try and make it work faster. That backfired and there was a huge lawsuit over employee's that got harmed because of that. The result recalled Apple products and the humiliation that they will no longer try new things or experiment anymore. That cost the APple company plenty of dollar bills. Good thing is the Apple Manufacturer in China was sued nothing linked to the one's back home!
Thanks a lot for the thoughts and advice, I will be really careful and won't take any chances...
I was trying to decide between Galaxy 2 and HTC One S, same price, got the HTC...superiour sound (love my music) and killer design...Samsung designs suck.
Well, just saw the 'note' thing...hahha thats like twice more expensive and bigger.
Which pocket are you gonna carry it in?
Hugh.G.Rection:
The galaxy note 2 is (just about) small enough to fit in a pocket, but that's not the point, it's a 'phablet' i.e. it's a tablet PC that also does phone calls. You don't want them too small or your can't use two fingers or the 'pen'.
Edit: Sorry just read your reply below, "why not a 10 inch tablet", well because (as far as I'm aware) they don't double as phones. It's about preference...some people prefer desktops, some laptops, some the smallest phones; the note is not a phone that got too big, it is a variety that you can take or leave... that is the way it is supposed to be to cater for the market of those people who want big phones to not have to squint their eyes so much when reading documents and be able to watch movies more comfortably etc. As for the pocket, I am a girl and never carry electronic gadgets on my body...throw it in the bag.
diverdude1:
yeah, to me it is an eReader that I can Wechat on too ! eread w/out going blind....
manasyt:
ok sounds good;) But if its gonna be a bag why not get a 10'' tablet?
Sidi:
I don't want a tablet... I want a phablet..to be precise I want the Galaxy note 2.
manasyt:
ok a phablet it is:) I'm sure It's very convenient and all but when you are making a phone call it looks like you are holding a brick. But that's only my opinion. Girls don't tend to have big hands either but it'll be fine I guess , can use 2:) Just messing around , enjoy it
Sidi:
Haha yes it is quite big... It will have to walk, I will find ways. Thanks
Sidi:
I guess my English is dying here...meant to say it will have to WORK...Thanks everyone for the advice on the phone.
