Q: Do you try and go traditional for Thanksgiving & Christmas in China?

Thanksgiving in this week and we are trying to do a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Ordered a Turkey, ensured we have pumpkin pie mix and corn syrup. This will be my first attempt at traditional Thanksgiving and I fear it just won't work. Previous years we do traditional dinners with Chinese characteristics. It has all the component, but was all cooked in a rice cooker or on the stove. Very different but it had its own traditions.

I worry trying to make it too much like home, but without being home will just make it rubbish!

i just found a store here in daqing that you can order an entire roast pig, and now an entire oven baked turkey!  so i will order the turkey and home for the best.  the side dishes i can do myself.  stuffing, mashed potatos, gravy, easy... the turkey was always the problem.

I always do Christmas dinner traditional. I am able to order pretty much everything either online or at specialty food stores, but advance planning is required because it takes a few weeks for some items. I purchased a counter top oven for 800 RMB that will fit a 9KG turkey, make homemade stuffing and mashed potatos, bake the pies the day before (apple, pumpkin, and cherry) green bean casserole etc. Then I invite my friends and we sit around and feast and play guitars or play cards. We have gift exchange (dirty Santa style).

Thanksgiving I go to one of the hotel buffets.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
