Q: Do you want to buy lion or tiger cubs

I guess this is a question for the administrator but let's hear everyone else's opinion as well. I have just seen a classified ad on this site selling lion, tiger cubs and other "exotic" pets. Bearing in mind that a lot of people in China don't even know how to look after a dog properly and sometimes even have trouble with their kids why is an advert like this being allowed on the site. Is the administrator sure that these animals are raised in proper conditions in a manner conducive to their health or are we allowed to advertise anything at all on here irrespective of whether it is right or not. And is he sure that the persons selling these animals only sell them to people who can look after them in the right way. News to all Chinese who think this is ok, a lion or tiger is not a big fluffy pussy-cat that you keep in your apartment. There are world-wide regulations about the sale of such animals and I know "this is China so is different", but really should such things be allowed to be openly advertised like this

I don't think many places police what is advertised. Lions and tigers are easily bought in North America. There are many publications for buying exotic animals. Most lions and tigers raised in NA are for sport hunting, if you call hunting with rifles a sport? I don't know what the selling price is now, but 20 years ago a tiger/lion could be bought for $450, less than I paid for my pedigree house cat. A friend of mine had many big cats, I've handled them all from cubs to adults. I miss one tiger, but I won't go in a cage with them anymore.

Guilin has 1500 tigers. It is illegal to kill a tiger in China, even to euthanize one.

DRUNK POST:
Of course, it's a thousand times wrong, but it is no more wrong than owning a dog. A dog is born to be wild just like a tiger, but we domesticate it. So maybe either is fine. Personally I would rather see tigers roaming through Kmart, taking down shoppers and HALVING PRICES!
Personally what pisses me off more is the amount of people who still like to cage birds. I find that so much more cruel. They still sing though, huh? Stupid bastards.

tomcatflyer:

Priceless answer Martian, I just love the idea of tigers etc wandering around supermarket aisles snacking on shoppers. I do take your point about domestic dogs but at least if you have a small dog then it can at least run around the apartment a little,  bit harder for a full blown tiger.  Although as Ted said these adverts are widely available in NA it is another example of just because you can do something does not mean you should do it.

Dogs and cats were never domesticated. They choose to live with us. It was mutually benifical. Keeping birds in a cage is the only way to keep some birds from escaping, control the mess they make and also to keep them safe if you have a cat or from enviromental issues, like cold or kids with badminton rackets.

Nothing wrong with kids taking advantage of birds to get a little badminton practice, it's part of God's plan.

The classifieds section seems largely unworried about such things.  They even have a specific category under Services for Outcall Massage....what do you reckon is going on there?

These are really good points.  In general, I find that this site equals CraigsList on a bad day in terms of what it offers for sale.  I can only wonder what the Chinese language version of the site offers.
