One of my favorite blogs is Seeing Red in China, and he's already posted two great articles about it. The comments are also worth reading. And yes, AIDS always has a deep impact on every society.

Great question! December 1st (World Aids Day) came and went just like any other day (where i was anyway, not sure if there were any HIV/AIDS related broadcasts on tv).

I suppose it's the whole "it's not there if we pretend we don't see it" thing, it's sad though 'cause it's going to catch up with them sooner or later (the lack of awareness programs and initiatives).

Most Chinese people don't know anything about it. We got into a big discussion about it where I said that Chinese people don't know how to protect themselves from it. The smartest kid in class adamently refused my assertion. When I asked him how I was wrong he said that the 2 sex partners will ask each other if they have AIDS and that's how they know who has it and who doesn't. So yeah, if that's how they protect themselves then China is doomed. Nothing short of a blood test can confirm if you have AIDS or not and most Chinese where I am don't know that.

AIDs has a deep impact on the chinese society and every other society that is known to man. If you want to learn about how bad Aids is check out the story of the Democratic Republic of Congo and see how it has affected that country. It has a deep impact on everybody and since the world is freer now than in the past and everybody is able to travel almost anywhere in the world it's impact has grown that much more.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
