Q: Does anyone have suggestions for good contemporary non-fiction works on China?

I'm not much fussed if they're Chinese or foreign authors - but who are some of the best writers and academics currently writing about China?

I read two non-fiction books recently:

Inside the Red Mansion - Oliver August. It is was a good read and has some interesting insights on the goings on here.

The Miracle - Schuman. This is about Asian countries (not only china) and their economic developmet. I found it pretty interesting as well

MissA:

Thanks, man.

The Terracotta Army by John Man.

About China's first Emperor and the birth of a nation. You might find some cultural history that makes the Chinese what they are today.
