Q: Doe's China treat it's people as little children?

further to a q about facebook
Does China treat the general population as nieve children through censership

yes I know they dont want mass riots and trouble like we saw last year in the middle east and Africa.
but the more social things
like the porn and Drugs , bulling and all the other little things that cause problems a some point in a family and in the comunity that we come from.
does censership reduce the impact it can have on not just young people but overall?
hope this makes sence

in a way yes, and no too.  They try hard to control the info you are exposed to, so you do not get the wrong ideas or wish to improve your standard of living by doing things the way they are done at other places.  In manipulating the masses, yes, they treat them as naive little children.

But in today techonogical age, no barrier erected is fail safe, holes can and are punched, more are using VPN and other services, getting news and events from abroad,  and those in my eyes are not naive at all.

They've had a couple of revolutions, with complete overthrows of governments, in the last 100 years (and, really, this government is basically got to power because of that last revolution). They happened because lots of people (well, ok, some...) from the middle classes, decided to do something about it.

That all happened when they didn't have the technology to communicate well to everybody at once to organise protests, riots, revolution...

Just think what would happen now if you could!!!

And, as an extention, I might start a new thread.....

Why does the British government treat its citizens like children?  And the American government?  And about every other government that you can think of?  That should be the question, truly.  Nothing is that unique to China that itn't replicated in another place on the face to this planet. It is simply human nature as the French writer Honore de Balzac wrote.

I am shocked by some of the colonialist attitudes that show up around here....China this, and China that ... look at your own countries, folks.  They ain't doing so much better either.

Shining_brow:

WTF??? In Australia, I am NOT worried about suddenly disappearing one night because I choose to loudly voice my sentiments about how much of a dick my PM happens to be, or how useless my government is,, or even to suggest we start to publicly protest in the streets - please tweet and sms everyone you know to come and join me on such and such a date! AND it can get national news coverage! As another thread suggested, do you honestly think Occupy Beijing would ever happen??? yes, there were and are limitations on what can be done - but they are done (mostly) on the basis of not seriously invconveniencing the rest of the population - not just because the government's egos have been hurt. Similarly, our politicians get audited, are not allowed any sort of bribery or corruption (rather than NEEDING some sort of bribery or corruption to get into power). Is there censorship in Australia? Yep! What for..?? Crimes. We do not have access to child pornography. Nor do we have easy access to websites inciting racial hatred (eg, go beat up all those type of people), illegal manufacturing of drugs or explosives, and links to terrorist organisations (although, for ALL of those things, there are possibilites and legitimate reasons to access them. Which means, for virtually ANY given topic you care to discuss, I have COMPLETE access to sources of information should I desire to go and look for it - legally! That does NOT happen in this country... Do NOT.EVER. try to compare the freedoms we have in Australia to those in China and try to hold some sort of light to China! It just doesn't happen!!! Does my government try to BS me? Of course! Am I able to see past it? Yep! Can I tell other people about the BS? Yep! Can I demand that my government stop BS'ing me? Yep! (Will they do it... weeeellllllllllllll.............)

You question is not worth to answer imho, because it got biased and mis-informated.

Just tell you a truth, over 80% Chinese dont have any contacts with foreigners. That 20% Chinese who do are some "students"or"less well-educated ppl" or "big-mouthed" Chinese  or "business people who dont understand politics"etc.... This is why you got all false information from Chinese about Chinese governement  it's like you will be jailed just because you say "fuck you, China",  no way. You are ridiculously innocent here. So are thousands and tons of stupid Chinese here....They dont know how to bring a correct and right information to someone foreign, because most of them dont know foreign countries well!!!

Why does a big country like China use "foreign language website" here such as "stupid American youtub, facebook, twitter, etc" and make money  too? What for? become like stupid American? no way!

Find some intelligent Chinese to be friend please. Don't listen too much of your both biased and lied medias back home about China. Grow up, use your own eyes and own heart to feel China deeper!

Shining_brow:

Localla, your response is confusing! Yes, 80% of the population haven't met foreigners, nor have access to foreign media... so, 100% of those people only have access to Chinese media influences. Thus, the question is - does "China" (ie, the government) treat the mass of Chinese people as little children through the use of its mass media (and, for that matter, through government policies, eg education)?

I didnt reply OP questions at all but rather do an analysis why he formed such a question with all biased and incorrect information. This is where you confusion comes from I bet.. No, China didnt treat their people as 12 years old, because the whole country is at 12 years old now ....----ok, this is a direct simple answer for you.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
