I am an online English teacher. I take my job seriously and I do the best I can to ensure students understand the concepts I try to present to them. Though I do my best to be consistent, I am not above making mistakes. I don't want to confuse learners or make lessons less effective as a result of even the most minor mistakes. If I work on things I'm having trouble with, will it improve my standing with my employer and the parents of the students? Is one mistake enough to damage face beyond repair? Does being Laowai make people more sympathetic when mistakes are made because the lack of understanding face is expected? What can I do as a Laowai to be more aware of face?
